I miss the old Hammond Square Mall and the smell of corn dogs in the air thanks to that corn dog stand near the entrance.

That was a great 80s mall design. Better than most in the area like Cortana, Bon Marche, Lakeside. All the levels and greenery and water features in the center. I grew up in the country so our infrequent trips there were like the whole world when I was a kid. The Duff’s restaurant was cool with the big turning wheel of food. Even when older while it wasn’t all that, it was still a cool place closer than other things in BR or NO.

One time I was in the mall food court and these two blondes were in the food court. I was eating a hot dog on a stick and one of them made eye contact and waved at me, or so I thought.

I took a few more bites of the corn dog as I planned my approach. I threw the food away, and marched over. When I got to them, I asked the one who waved where she went to high school. Her face changed into an expression that one makes when they smell a fart. I was thrown off course, so I said "So where, your boyfriend at?"

She looked at me even more disgustedly and said "At work" in a snotty-arse tone.

I bolted in the other direction. I haven't gone to the mall since then, in case I run into her and her friend.

Piccadilly and space port in Cortana as a kid, then being able to actually smoke cigs in the mall as a teenager, then moving to hammond in the 90's and discovering Morrison's in that mall.

Almost forgot.... looking at the bikini posters in spencer's as a pre teen.

Not on decline here in Atlanta. They have at least 8 vibrant malls out of 11 the others are not as good

When Cortana Mall had it’s grand opening opened I remember the hot Delta Airines stewardess that was there promoting the BR Airport in the 70’s. Man she was a cute looking blonde and she gave me a peck on the cheek and some flight wings pins they were giving out.

Toys by Roys was a small toy store by Sears but just a cool place. All we had in BR before that was little folks in Delmont Village, cullens play land, and godchaux downtown on Main Street. Man I still got the original matchbox cars that came in a square cardboard box.

Cortana was so packed in the 70’s this time of year people would have to park in the fields across from the mall to walk in the mall.

Remember going to San Jacinto Mall in Baytown as a kid. Parents used to always park at Sears. They had a candy stand that we would get chocolate covered peanuts at before we left.

First cruising grounds as a junior high kid were at the mall. If you’re an 80s kid it was yours as well.

Shopping malls won’t disappear we just won’t be flooded with them. Successful ones will remain open same as always.
