Yeah you gotta use 3rd party sites for anything. I always read as many 3rd party reviews as I can outside of Amazon.

I don't use Amazon nearly as much anymore. At one time there were several products I would just order through them, but now I only order from them if I can't get something I need at the store.

I just like to see the product in person before I purchase it.. And there are things I have to go to the store for anyway, so I might as well get it there..

Amazon is going to shite. You'll find better pricing elsewhere with a little homework

I rarely use it anymore.

I go by the 1 star comment ratings to get honest reviews.

Works remarkably well to steer you away from crap.

Agree. It’s very hard to trust ratings now that so many sellers are giving free/cheap products in exchange for reviews. Every single product is now the best thing ever.

Yep. Plus a lot of negatives are from unsuccessful buyer attempts to extort extra items or a discount.

I saw one negative review once where the buyer bought an item and then demanded that the seller use 2-day shipping, which the seller openly tells everyone isn't available.

Big purchases tend to be for name brands. It’s much easier to get dependable and thorough reviews for these items on websites like consumer reports or CNET. At that point Amazon is just the place you may decide to buy it based on price or convenience.

The one saving grace is that Amazon has a great customer service reputation and a generous return policy. Therefore it’s a little reassuring if you decide to take a chance on the cheapest option sold by an unfamiliar brand. However, electronics make me nervous because poor quality can lead to fires or damage other devices.

Amazon is going to do everything they can to push "their" products and the ones with the best margins/ad revenues to the top of these searches.

You also have the Chinese knockoff companies adding to the confusion.

It is up to the consumer to sort through the nonsense and pick the best item.

It's pretty much the online version of in store displays and end caps.

Phone cables were just an example, but that’s exactly my point. You really shouldn’t have to read so many reviews for something like that.

This really seemed to become a bigger issue once sponsored products started becoming more prevalent. Also, Amazon is getting more of an EBay/Etsy feel with all the 3rd party sellers.

Like anything else, competition in the market is great for the consumer. However, I suspect many of these items are all made in the same factory but sold under the disguise of different brand/seller names.

I’d be willing to bet that many of these sellers don’t even put on the respective label or packaging until the item is bought.

Never saw the Amazon hype. I have bought a few things from AMazon, but do better buying specific items from specific companies.

fast fact:

most amazon storefronts are on ebay *UNDER THE SAME STORE NAME* CHEAPER and will ship you stuff in 2-days in AMAZON BRANDED BOXES without signing up for amazon's prime scam or having to pay amazon sales tax. lol sales tax.

and guess what? no minimum.

i couldn't find a F-F HDMI connector around the house the other day that I really needed..ordered one for *THREE DOLLARS AND FREE SHIPPING* off ebay. it arrived the next day and works like a charm.

you can't make impulse buys like that on amazon. they make you do that bullshite 'add on' crap even if you have the OT-sacred PRIME Nonsense.

Does eBay have a streaming service with tv shows, movies, and original programming?

Lol no they don't. I have prime and I can order one item and have it same day if I order earlier enough in the day.

Amazon has always been dog crap as far as a retail site goes. It's a cluttered klusterfuk with horrible refinement options.

I use eBay exclusively as I can refine product searches down to exactly what I'm looking for and it's not littered with advertisements and product suggestions
