So, I was in the grass parking lot at the corner of Taylor and Columbia, in the heart of the hood. At around 7:45 shots started outside the convenience store right there across from the fairgrounds gates. Everyone started running and getting between cars ducked down. The first set was about 8 shots then another 7-8. This time I heard two rounds impact near me. About 10-15 seconds passed and another round of shots a little further away. This happened 2 more times with 6-8 rounds being fired further and further away. Cops were already engaged with the situation after the first 2 sets of shots. Makes me fricking sick because it was a very busy night. Hundreds of people around including many many kids. Was complete chaos. I heard two people were shot with non-life threatening injuries. It’s a miracle and innocent bystander was not killed. I think they got one in custody and one is still at large but I can’t confirm either of these details. There’s not much info released yet. Kids can’t even go to a fricking fair anymore. I’ll refrain from saying anything else before I get banned.

Yeah I actually co-own that grass lot and we park cars there. We hired a sheriff detail the last couple years because of the increase in fights and other crap. He took off towards the shooting last night, gun drawn.

It’s good money. Can bring in $8k on a good fair weekend. But we’re done. Never again. Will be putting the lot up for sale. Hope we can get $350 for it. But I’m not expecting much.

I took my two boys, Dad, and step mother yesterday. We left at 5:15 to make it back to watch the game. I saw comments about this on fb last night.

That pocket of contingency around the fair grounds needs to be extracted and new development created.

Yeah it’s bad. It’s a cycle of trash. Local woman walking with her 2-3 year old baby yesterday and he was whining and she yanks his arm and says “shut the frick up!” It’s honestly sad. That these people don’t know how to love each other. This kid (don’t recall if it was a boy or girl) is going to grow up and either leave his family or yank her kids down the street cursing at them.

Wish I had the time/money to play monopoly. They had a bunch of lots around there for sale for pretty cheap. Was always hoping someone would start buying them up.

Is there any kind of website/newsfeed/local paper that covers Covington/Mandeville area specifically? Seems like there would be something. All I can find for northshore news is attached to the NOLA.com/advocate and it sucks.

Fairs in South Louisiana are trashy and have been for decades. Will not go to many. Has to be damn near 100% white for me to even consider going.

Unlike Slidell and Mandeville. Covington is a violent, ghettoish community.

Of the big three in St. Tammany Parish, Covington has the most violent crime.

That’s very ignorant and incorrect however Covington does have a distinct and pretty big ghetto area and it borders the fairgrounds. Mandeville does too but it’s much smaller and most people don’t even know where.

Where is it? Genuinely curious. Area east of 59/190?
