Youre out of your fricking mind if you think shooting a deer from over a corn pile from 75 yds out in anyway prepares you for identifying, locating and returning hostile fire in an accurate manner.

You're crazy.

Talk about a case of "that's not in the job description."

There are plenty of people who safely handle guns everyday all around you. And you have no clue about it and never will unless a situation requires it.

Go look up the number of CC permits in louisiana.

Teachers can be safely trained and taught when and how to safely utilize a firearm as a last line of defense in these situations.

Unless you think teachers are just all idiots

They would have to monitor a lot of people and they would be busy as frick during hunting season.

Not at all but question...

so what happens if a teacher has a nervous break down and starts to shoots up the joint. Then what do we do next?

Ok. How many are actually good enough to return unexpected fire with a shite ton of innocent children around?

No I dont trust Joe Bob from down the road to not cause more harm than good in this situation.

Way to minimize these attacks. Obviously a school is a Perfect Location for a planned attack. Lots of people packed into a small area where guns are illegal to carry. School administration should identify and train 15 faculty members who they feel can handle a weapon and handle a weapon in a stressful situation. Nobody would know they carry. Only the 15 faculty, the APs and the principal. The only time you would know they are armed is when you would need them to be armed. Attacks would still happen but they would be greatly reduced. I’m not advocating arming any swinging dick. Ideally former law enforcement, military, hunters etc that may be on your faculty

Tldr, the answer to our gun violence problem, is to get more guns.

It is one thing to learn how to fire the gun. It is another to learn how to handle a weapon in the stress of a combat situation.

They'd be just as likely to shoot an innocent student as they would the gunman.

How do they get all of these students so quick for interview? Media crews handing out business cards as they are lining up for safety?

Playing with hypotheticals...

If she has a nervous breakdown we are back to the root cause issue which is mental illness and our society's refusal to address mental problems and red flags.

They have combat training, force on force training etc where individuals are placed in situations very similar to both train and educatr them on the highly stressful situations.

Im not saying give them a gun with no training. But with proper training, they would be a very effective deterrent

The alternative is fish in a barrel

The idea of giving all teachers guns is a very bad idea. Let's say someone does come into a school and start shooting.. A bunch of teachers grab their guns, several of them panic and just start shooting at what they think might be the shooter and ends up hitting someone else.

Not to mention, you run the risk of kids trying to steal the guns.

Anyone who thinks this is a good idea is insane.

And in a situation like today, the kid walked into school, threw smoke grenades, hit the fire alarm.. Had a gas mask and started shooting as students ran out of the class. At what point would an armed teacher been able to stop that?

All of my employees have cc for self defense. We all took the cc class together and then we took an advanced shooting class together. After that advanced class, it was obvious that only the business owner and myself should be allowed to carry on the premises.

You cannot prevent this problem without weapons present. So if you don’t want any weapons in the building that’s fine. I can totally understand that. But there is not a single other way to prevent what happened today. If there was then that protocol would be in place already
