I was a latch key kid, along with a fricking shite load of kids born in the late 70s and early 80s. This shite wasnt going on like this back then.

Again. One "symptom" in itself isn't going to be a problem. Latch-key kid with two active parents monitoring the kid isn't going to typically result in major issues.

You start layering latch-key kid, with single-parent household, and growing numbers of single parent households, the plethora of information online, mega-high schools where students aren't truly known, etc.

His question had nothing to do with wanting to be educated, and you damn well know it.

I was reading through the thread hoping to get some updates but instead all I see are a bunch of you idiots arguing about gun laws

It would be 3 pages with no new updates for the last hour and a half. This always happens in these threads.

Based off of that picture collection, I would guess the kid spent A LOT of time on the internet.

Quite a short 9.8 seconds.

I’ll admit I was wrong though.

A rather inconvenient truth.

Guns aren't the problem. Never have been.

But like I said earlier it's much easier to just ban guns for the easy win while the underlying problem is ignored.

Then the kids move to other means of killing, and people just start scratching their heads.

A teenager today is biologically the same as a teenager from 50 years ago. Guns were accessible then like they are today.

So what has changed in the last 50 years?

1. Both parents working to support the family and shirking their duty to be involved in the child's life (Latchkey syndrome)
2. Children today are bombarded with violence in music, movies, videogames, and news. Every slight must be responded in a manner that sends a message.
3. Bullying, has always existed but at least in the preinternet days you could escape the person after school when you went home. Nowadays every embarassing thing has you being "put on blast" in social media.
4. Lower number of extracurricular clubs than in previous generations leading many teens to feel isolated/detached. Most of these shooters are loners with no outlet from reality except their our dillusions

The shooter was banned from carrying a backpack on campus last year because of concerns over previous threats he had made.

So he had made threats, was still allowed on campus, but just couldn't bring a backpack. Brilliant solution.

Great post, especially this part. I was picked on in middle school. That was hard to deal with then...I can't imagine going through that now with social media.

I cant remember to be certain, but I believe they did.

That was one of the first publicized mass shootings too.

I also think the media are the ones who drive this and the whole gun debate just keeps it fresh in mind. A kid doesn't care about laws.

They also know if they claim insanity, they will be fine. Back in the day, I was afraid to get a phone call home from a teacher. I couldn't imagine ever thinking about how my life would be if I ever brought a weapon to school.

lol

I am just repeating what was said on FNC by students, superintendents, parents, and law enforcement.

Very possible one of them was wrong about the backpack.

The attention given the Columbine shooters is a big part of the problem
