I do.
If someone is crazy enough to shoot up a garlic festival, I doubt he gives a shite if there’s a possibility that a small % of people are carrying guns

So sad.

Such a great response from him though.

do people honestly think that a regular citizen will be able to keep their cool and locate the shooter while there's a massive slaughter going on?

You’re thinking John Wick.

Think, instead,of being at the festival, in the moment. The shooting starts somewhere nearby. You hear the screams. You’re terrified but find a spot to take cover. The shooter is approaching your position, unaware you are there. It’s open all around, and fleeing will mean almost certain death. Would you rather be armed or unarmed right now?

So this is pretty much a case of open carry being allowed at the event and what would result from it.

Not dismissing that someone carrying (open or concealed) could have been closer, have to think the situation is exactly as most on both sides of a 'gun control' debate would want in a quick response.

As a middle aged white guy I would be the most likely an assumed shooter rather than savior.

Likely get my arse shot by the officer responding to an active shooter call.

The point of the original post was more about the fact that it was probably a legislated gun free area and that libs think that if we simply banned guns this wouldn’t happen. Yet law breakers ignore laws. See the idiocy of that notion?

And whether you goobers think a “regular” person would be able to is a dumb take. If I’m able to survive the initial shooting and bunker down, I’d like the chance to defend my family and myself at that point.

Also, you say regular people couldn’t, but these same people of Walmart can whip out a phone and shoot video as the shots are being fired. A little training with a gun and maybe they could whip that out and fire too.

I think that is a potential fly in the ointment. I think the answer to whether it would ultimately be better or worse could only be determined by experimentation in real life.

The average person wouldn't be the one entering the fire fight.

Many more variables as well. Civilian response isn't always a positive and in the situation which one is helping isn't always readily obvious.

What appears to be a trained officer responded in this situation and gave his life. Hopefully everything proves to be void of friendly fire, but I wouldn't hold anyone to the unreasonable expectation of not allowing it to happen.

What is preventing them from being an average person?

They can't even video in proper orientation and you want to give them a gun?

The "average person" is supposed to be a victim of learned helplessness. Everything is left to the experts. The village raises his kid and builds his business for him. Meanwhile some over-perfumed radar-operating victim of high school bullying is the combat expert who'll save his life.

Thanks, LBJ, you Mexican sex act you.

So instead of defending yourself, you would rather trust some high school dropped out turned LEO to fill a diversity quota is going to save you? Just like those kids at that Florida high school right? LEOs showed nothing but bravery there.

That is only if you have your gun out and waving it around like an idiot.

Do yourself a big favor. Go take a conceal and carry class. They teach you all about this. They can really educate uneducated people about guns and gun laws. Even if you don’t want to carry ever go take the class.

Once you took out the active shooter, why in the world would you still be waving your gun around?
