You have Matherne's Supermarket, Calandros, Albertson's & Fresh Market in that general area

Also, a completely refurbished Winn Dixie on Siegen, which is the best out of all of these specific stores in the Perkins/Bluebonnet/Essen/Siegen area. The Burbank area is a pretty decent way from those stores, at least for grocery shopping. I've shopped at them all in that location for many years. I'm saying that, in general, the entire city of Baton Rouge & surrounding areas need more traditional grocery stores such as those listed or a Rouse's instead of the combined superstore/grocery stores like Walmart & Target or the "specialty" grocery stores such as Whole Foods. For people who do actual grocery shopping & cooking, consistently & regularly, the more traditional grocery stores have better selections & variety of brands and much better quality of fresh products than the superstores, and much better prices than the specialty stores.

I'm not even sure if this is on topic after looking at the OP, ... but I'm very much a traditionalist regarding grocery stores & grocery shopping, which seem to be dwindling for the most part because of the superstores & specialty markets - not a good thing for the average consumer who does quite a bit of traditional cooking, & who is not so much concerned about what is organic or not (an exceptionally overrated gimmick for the most part) or how tofu can be substituted for actual meat in a recipe, but who wants a large, quality selection & variety of quality products which are not ridiculously overrated & over-priced.

Only criminals have guns. Legal gun-owners are screwed every time the 2nd amendment is eroded.

Bring back public cloggings, floggings
and hangings. The clogging is for white folk entertainment leading up to the event.

Damn Crusty. I lived in Teakwood around that time as well. Now I live in Springlake. Don't think I could hit a driver from my backyard to Teakwood though.

I love Calandro's for meat and nicer items. But Winn Dixie is really nice now and a hell of a lot cheaper for non-specialty general groceries.

I don't find that at all. And the gas perks are nice. They did a great job on the remodel.

Did you play basketball? My apartment was right by the courts with our side window looking into the big field...which is basically in my backyard now.

Not anymore, at least not since they re-vamped many WDs over the past couple of years. He chain had gotten inconsistent from store to store several years ago, & the prices had risen while selection got thinner. However, it has really been much improved, somewhat back to what it originally was many years ago. I am extremely particular about the meat I purchase & from where, and had gotten so that I wouldn't purchase it from WD, but over the past couple of years, the quality of meat has improved greatly at WD; however, Calandro's, where I normally did all of my meat shopping, had declined quite a bit. So, it's generally a cyclical thing with grocery stores as far as quality & selection of products, which is why it is important to have enough traditional grocery stores - generally when one begins to suck in a particular category, you have to go to another for that specific item. Usually, I have to go to 3 different grocery stores for the selection & quality of the products I buy bc one usually doesn't have it all or the best quality of everything I need. And as far as being overpriced, Albertson's is by far the worst of the traditional grocery stores, plus, their meat is not up to par, ever, imo. Honestly, when I purchase meat, depending on the type, I go to different stores since not one has the same quality on every specific type. For instance, I will make a special trip to Carter's in Denham for pork loin roast or center cut pork loin chops, and go to WD for prime stew meat, & Calandro's for Angus NY Strip, but I won't even buy chicken or ground beef at Walmart or Target. ... The point is that the superstores, mainly, but to some degree, the specialty markets, have really contributed to the diminishing traditional grocery stores, and although they've made a bit of a comeback the past several years, there still either aren't enough or none of them maintain consistency in quality and selection/variety to keep grocery shoppers from having to drive all over the city just to purchase their normal items. We just need more of them with consistent quality & selection of products.
