The problem here as with everything else in society these days. Is everybody is looking at this as one or the other. Republicans cry mental health dems cry guns. Very few look at it as a mix of both where changes need to be made to both.
Does their need to be a sweeping gun ban? no thats stupid. Does there need to be some changes made to availability to certain people and the ease of access for those that shouldnt have them? Sure. Is mental health to blame completely for these incidents? No. Is it part of the problem and needs to be addressed accordingly to make sure we are giving those capable of carrying out these acts help? Yes.
The problem is people are so fricking wrapped up in their partisan mindsets that theyll never see a balance has to be reached. It's like that with so many things in todays society yet we keep doing the same thing and are amazed when nothing actually changes.
As an educator school tragedies like this hit close to home for me. I hope we as a society make some sort of change to help curb the recent trend and stop it.
