Woodlawn is a C rated school. I believe all other BR public high schools got a F other than the magnets.

The aggressor should be expelled. Just be done with that shite. Idc if he’s the star defensive tackle of the team.

That is pathetic. And McKinley had/still has a very good AP program. The rest might as well be called Belaire.

The school should've just called their fathers to correct the situation.

Belaire, Tara, Lee (pre-magnet), Broadmoor were all decent schools even well into the 90s in some cases. They are all trash now.

We just pay for private school so we can live close to work. Thankfully we only have one school aged kid. I completely understand why a lot of people with kids move to P'ville, Zachary, Central, LP etc though.

Thinking back to when I was in HS.. The fact that one fight makes news headlines today is funny.

Baker broke away from the EBR school system in 2003.

I thought breaking away from EBR solves every problem.

I can’t wait to hear what everyone’s favorite fatass has to say about this. Can’t blame excessive force on a black officer, the kids were obviously just having a scuffle about which university to attend, MIT or Harvard

ETA: or does he ignore because it isn’t in the EBR school system? (Although he had a lot to say about the white Pontchatoula High teachers)

Every time I hear of a non fatal shooting in NBR I think to myself that there will be another shooting in a few weeks in response. I'm sure the domino effect is larger than we'll ever know.

Spilt into school and most definitely should be out on the streets by midnight. That is what leftist loonies like Helmet Head do not get. That is why you lock em up now...rehabbing comes later. If at all. But they had a CLEAR fricking choice. To quote The Departed -- You don't fricking hit him.

I wish some of these HH and KB types would get off of Facebook and go down to these high crime areas and "make a difference".

BAKER – A school resource officer had to use a stun gun to to diffuse an out-of-control brawl at Baker High School Monday

A side note, but still tangentially related to Louisiana’s terrible education system. Incorrect use of diffuse vs defuse. Time was an editor would have been fired for making such a basic error.

The city of Baker was mostly a dump well before 2003. You can't polish a turd.

When I was starting my freshman year at SLU back in the 80's, a guy in my dorm from Baker was proud as shite of Baker high school... Wonder how he feels now...

I know some former graduates from mid 80s to the very early 90s, and they have good memories of the school. I was surprised when i found out recently that it wasn’t its own district back then as they all seemed focused on being from Baker schools & the city of Baker growing up. Looking at some of their high school pics whites seemed to make up at least 55% to 65% percent (pretty small sample of pics so may be way off) but also seemed to show whites & blacks having fun and doing official school extracurricular activities together. Many of both races going to college and doing well. It kind of reminded me a little of my high school in regards to being fairly close to same numbers of whites & blacks. It seems like a lot of their families and friends’ families started moving elsewhere in the 90s starting with parents that no longer had kids in school system but then later ones with kids that just ended up finishing elsewhere before Baker officially became a district.

Did this exodus start to happen because Baker started looking into having its own school district in 1991 with most done around 1995, or because creating their own district took so long to happen including negotiations with Justice, NAACP, & EBRSD in regards to the long standing desegregation case? It seems like by the time it was approved by judge in 2002 and district starting in 2003-2004 a large number of the original families & residents pushing for district and seemingly proud of being from Baker schools had long since moved away from Baker.

It kind of coincides with some of what I saw throughout 90s with other friends’ families that before had gone to other public schools within city of Baton Rouge around same time so doubt it was because of push to form district. I was wondering if they had let Baker separate a lot sooner would it have happened less there already being incorporated well before push to create their own district and if they then could have better dealt with the upcoming influx of Katrina evacuees.
