so as some of you may remember, my daughter last week totaled a car she and my son shared. He was going to take it to college next week.

I've been looking online, including cl. So today I found this posting with a nice deal on a 2007 Jetta. LINK

Call the guy, he's in the quarter, I'm on the northshore. Talk to my son about it and he wants to get it, so I call him back and tell him we're on our way.

I get 2 miles from the end of the bridge and the guy calls me and says he just sold it. Says someone came over cash in hand. Well no shite, we were too. 2 hours and $20-$25 bucks down the train.

NCSB

ETA: and on top of that, y'all know my son is on dialysis, so we give him 4 hour treatments 6 days a week. That means he gets a "skip day" once a week. Normally that is a Friday or Sat so he can go do stuff. Well because of the timing involved we decided we'd do his "skip day" today. Now he's gonna get stuck doing it this weekend. Just shitty all around.

People, bruh.

It sucks, but the guy doesn't know you and just wants the car sold. A bird in hand.

I would have done the same thing. There's never a guarantee. I've had plenty of buyers "on their way" never show up.

I know it sucks, but cash in hand in front of you will always trump 'we're on the way with cash'.

Nothing shitty about that. I wouldn't trust that you were coming either. Like someone above said "A bird in the hand."

I get it that the world's out for themselves. Not everyone is that way, however.

That's the risk you take as a buyer. I've had many no shows when trying to sell things on craigslist. It can bite you in the arse if you hold out for one person that backs out later when another person can come by sooner.

Then again I have never sold something as expensive as a car. I may have waited for you.

This! I tried selling on CL twice. Both times I set up a meeting to exchange, both times nobody shows.

Yep. And I can't count how many ads I've seen on C'list that say first person here with cash it is theirs. I've had about a dozen no shows over the years selling stuff on c'list. Even when it has been them agreeing to meet me somewhere. I've left work early, taken all of my lunch time, and missed other events to sell something and they just don't show up, and then won't respond when you text or call them. A couple of times someone just forgot the time, or thought we were meeting on the next evening or whatever, but you can't fault the guy for selling it to the first person there with cash for him.
