It also very rarely, if ever, crosses the center line to affect both sides... Either right or left...

I was told if you had chickenpox as a child (I did) you were susceptible to having shingles. Of all the childhood diseases I had (and I had'um all) CP was by far the worse.

Chickenpox - the gift that keeps on giving.

skin pain before the rash appeared

Yes, I had it on my forehead along a nerve on my left side. Went to the emergency room when the blisters appeared and was given valtrex and painkillers. I have a high tolerance for pain but because it was on my head I felt like I had a migraine for three days. It's been a year and that part of my forehead still feels a little numb.

I don't wish it upon anyone. Quite possibly the most miserable experience I've ever had.

This was my experience, felt something odd on the back of my neck, started feeling weird in the left bottom of my neck, pain spread along left collar bone into my left shoulder socket. Got diagnosed the 4th day and put on Valtrex. Symptoms diminished over about a week, but would resurface about every 3 weeks for a few months. I got both Shingrex vax last year after it had been out about 2 years, after the first shot the symptoms resurfaced at a low level for about a week and diminished, had zero reaction after 2nd Shingrex shot 3 months later. I would definitely get the vaccination as no one wants a full blown bout of shingles, especially in the eyes, etc.

I had an extremely mild case a few years ago. Had weird burning sensation inside my left elbow all day then woke up with the rash in same spot. Slowly moved up the arm but got on medication same day and it luckily stopped at my shoulder. I was freaking out about it continuing to spread up to my face. I was extremely lucky it was mild and on my arm instead of my trunk or face. Scared to death of ever getting it again.

I had horrible chickenpox as a kid. It haunted me again by erupting at singles.

Started as my palm itching for months. No bumps, had no idea what it meant, then poof. One day I wake up with bumps on my wrist that spread to the biceps my wrists where touching when I slept.

Meds and steroids kept it from growing but it took a month to disappear.

Exactly that is why I don't take vaccines.

In 2016 while we were cleaning up my moms place after the flood, I noticed my right shoulder was itching and there was a rash. Had to roll my shirt sleeves up because if anything touched it, it itched liked crazy. I went to the doctor and they immediately said it was shingles. It didn't hurt, just itched like mtf hell if something touched it. I was better in 4 days. Dr said I was lucky and had a mild case. But dam it did it itch.

I had my spleen removed after a car wreck at seven, and I have a weak immune system; I get infections all the time. But I have never gotten shingles, thank God. I had a terrible case of the chicken pox. My brother had it, and he couldn't sleep; all he could do was lay down on the couch. He never got treated for it, so it persisted for months. Mostly in his groin area. My grandmother had it too and she said that it was the worst pain she had ever felt.

Went from arriving at work one morning doing just fine, to 30 minutes later hobbling across the ER parking lot sobbing in pain.

Worst pain I’ve ever been in.

Long story short, they discovered I had nerve shingles on my 2nd toe of my right foot. It took doctors a bit to figure it out, but they saw the small red pimple on my toe which confirmed it.

I didn’t move from our couch for two days and It put me on crutches for a week. I had two subsequent flare-ups months later that put me back on crutches for a couple of days both times. That was seven years ago when I was 38. I haven’t had nerve shingles since.

Shingle vaccination when you turn 50 helps. It's $250.00 bucks and most insurance won't pay it but it's a must unless you want to play the odds?

Prepare for hell. I got it two years ago, and I’m fairly young, so my doctor was shocked. Got a really bad case of it on my lower back and kept itching it before I knew what it was and of course, touched my eyes. Girlfriend at the time’s brother in law was a doctor and I was scared as shite I was gonna go blind once they diagnosed it. Hope like hell you don’t have bad side effects from GABA medications like I do. Keep it dry. Get comfortable with your couch and depression
