That doesn't sound sketchy at all...

Sounds like somebody did the old "switcheroo" in the evidence room before the stuff was sent off to the lab. Check with the deputy who just quit and bought a Ferrari.

If you don't know sugar comes in a powdered form that looks exactly like every other white powder, you're just a complete idiot.

13 pounds of sugar is what was put into the evidence room.
The 13 pounds of fentanyl never made it to the police station.

It is, and many departments are going to a “no field test” policy regarding powdery substances. Due to the danger to the officers involved. The departments are simply charging them with what it appears to be (generally cocaine) then sending it off to a lab and having the DA adjust charges as needed.
Everyone knows and I mean everyone that those field tests don't work. They will show a positive for about 80 different substances including sugar and caffeine. They are in no way reliable and I can't believe departments still use them when there are much better tests out there.

Confectioner's Sugar is finely ground sugar with some cornstarch added to keep it from clumping.
A product called Caster Sugar (superfine sugar) and other names is widely used in Europe because it dissovles much faster.

Caster that we who are frugal make at home in our food processor could get us in a whole lot of trouble (and it makes sweet tea quickly)

trouble is, they are basically ruining peoples life on the hunch that they are actually seeing drugs. Hope they get the shite sued out of them anytime they are wrong.
Didn’t the article say they found other illegal drugs as well...
