Why not tase her? This was definitely not a justified shooting.

This is what’s so wrong with this country. It should NOT matter what color anyone was in this tragic situation.

He wasn’t “discouraging” his partner from saving her. He was like “it was a head shot, she’s dead. You can get your kit but it’s a headshot and she’s gone.” There’s plenty enough to go at this cop for, but that one seems like a stretch that he’s keeping his partner from “saving her.”

It’s not like she was under arrest. If they were worried about boiling water, just step back and leave.

Yeah, this guy says he should at least gone for taser. This is a longer version.

The cop who shot her seemed like a douche. They were pretty rude to her from the start. At least the other officer was affected by it.

Send his arse to general pop in Cook County for life since they don't have a death penalty. Let the brothers handle this one.

Clearly she was elderly and had some mental stuff...but there is zero justification for that shooting, its murder. Does the roid cop have a taser maybe ?

Having done some work in HR and recruiting involving LE. You’re damn right I make decisions based off their tats. A guy with a Punsher or similar tat or sticker on his truck that’s overly “tacti-cool” douchebag is a red flag.

straight up murder. this one isn't even controversial and all the white folks should agree.
Yep. I will say that there's been near universal condemnation of the actions of the officer in this thread, with the exception of very few.

But for those that are inclined to defend the cop in this, or declare it "a good shoot", I ask that they consider why they expect less discipline and thoughtful use of force from their 'professional' law enforcement officers than what an 18 year old newbie private in a live combat zone is compelled to display?

Any defense of this shooting is inadvertently an indictment of the law enforcement profession as a whole, and an insult to the countless officers that perform their duties in a fair, just, and compassionate manner every day.

I don't understand why the guy felt the need to go into the house and get her identification.

They came and did their job. They were finished. Why not wish her a good night and leave?

In most of these cases I don’t think officers should be jailed for a split second mistake. Usually I favor being banned from law enforcement for life as the disciplinary action. However, in this case, he needs to go to prison for murder, because that is what this was.

Are you sure about that? Watch the first 45 seconds of the last video posted. The guy was outside her house, asked her if there was anything else, then indicated he was finished and clearly started to leave. The narrator even wonders why the guy asked for her id.

The job was finished, go to your patrol car and leave!

Not sure how those scenarios are flow charted from the police perspective but I found most of his approach confusing. He seems completely at ease allowing her to dig through a large bag two feet away from him, yet he was 30 seconds away from fearing that he was at risk of death or serious injury from her, with the only 'escalation' seeming to be her "rebuke" comment.
-Which kind of seemed like an attempt at a joke to me. As in, demon says :"I don't want water thrown at me", to which priest replies: "I rebuke you, in the name of the Lord", while splashing holy water on him.

Concerned about a pot of water 20 feet away from him in clear view of two trained first responders. For those of us who grew up with kitchens, there's nothing especially alarming about a pot sitting securely on a stove, in clear view of three adults, steps away.

Briefly taking on a joking manner with her as she deals with the pot. And then the immediate and bizarre escalation with the "shoot you in fricking face" shite. Approaching a 'threat' with no pressing need to do so.

And his actions after that don't need any description.

That lady was, at minimum, not the most mentally ill person in the room that night. His actions and this video are mind-boggling on many levels.

Those post-shooting bodycam vids are going to be play brutal in court when they contrast his partners reaction against his own.

His partner won't be winning any policing awards but their post-adrenilin reactions were night and day. His partner was leaning into his trunk, visibly shaking, and muttering "frick" and "shite" over and over while the shooter was audibly strutting around, begging anyone to listen to listen to his heroics, until he was asked to wait outside so they could actually work the scene.

Also:"Is there anything we can do for her? No? Alright, I'm not even gonna waste my med stuff then" is going to be awkward for him when they play it. Probably would have been better to leave the last bit out.

and: "Where's the gun?"
"No she had a... boiling water, and she came at me with boiling water."
"You shot her?"
is humiliating and as close to a satisfying moment that can be found in the videos and will also play poorly.
