the % of tigerdroppings new orleans folks that shite on the big texas cities is infinitely higher than the % of the inverse, but they love to play the woe is me card.

grew up in new orleans - now live in houston. houston isn't my favorite city in the world, but i likely wouldn't think of moving back for lateral pay, which isn't a reality in my field regardless.

I started out working for Shell in Houston on a new project partnered with Canada ( a project in its infancy) --- the Keystone Project. At the time the engineers envisioned an oil reserve right on the border of Canada and the US --- years later they found out it was only sand mixed with oil as you already know. I only stayed on the project for 1 year and then was sent up to Denver for a seismic consult for GSI .
It was during this time the oil leases were opening up in the Gulf I landed in New Orleans running the lines off the Phaedra and the Nairobi seismic ships . After that nothing would bring me back to Houston TX.

... BTW, fun fact ...

my brother was part owner of Compac Computer before they were sold to HP . While he was at Compac he developed the first 3D photo ever , of Hong Kong that was displayed at the world trade convention. He went on to work for HP and never gave up the rights to the 3D tech --- which is the first steps for that 3D printer

He' still around retired and enjoying life.

Broadly speaking, Houston is seen as a vibeless, corporate concrete jungle by many non U.S. Shell staff.

Houston is seen as the energy capital of the world. It's a very large city. Not everyone wants to live in a very large city. But it is by no means a vibe-less city. Wonder why Chevron decided to relocate from CA to Houston?

I bet she moves to Covington.

I suspect she already has a place in Covington, a place in Pass Christian and a place uptown. That includes bought + inherited.

Shell has done a pretty smart thing with their remaining NOLA-area units. The new place in NOLA on the River will give them an iconic presence while the campus up around Robert gives them a tree-shaded base that will not flood.

For up-and-coming O&G types Houston offers many more job options when the big-oil company fires you. When that happens in NOLA there are very few options.

Have lived in San Ramon CA (down the street from CVX former HQ) and Houston TX (multiple times).

Taxes, O&G centricity and talent pool were 3 prevailing factors for why CVX moved from CA to Houston.

Houston vibe was 10 notches below “Houston’s mass transit infrastructure”.

North Louisiana people don’t like south Louisiana because it doesn’t feature that warm blanket of dull boredom that you can find in parts of Mississippi or southern Arkansas

It’s so “boring” yet North Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas is full of south Louisiana people every fall.

I don’t see why it’s so hard for people to simply appreciate both North and South LA. They both have their own vibe. Plenty of good stuff to like on both sides. One has hurricanes. One has tornadoes. One has wooded rolling hills. One has wooded wetlands.

The rice thing is funny because very few Louisiana people even realize that the leading rice producer is actually Arkansas. Assuming 318 eats more potatoes than rice is ignorant.

North LA is better for hunting and more laidback country lifestyle.

South LA is better for partying and more of an urban lifestyle.

It’s pretty simple. Everyone has their own thing they prefer there’s not a right or wrong.

Wonder what his bonus package is?

I’m sure it’s a solid 10-20 million

Is Shell the last decent sized New Orleans upstream company? I know Cox Operating went bankrupt recently. Can't think of any other decent sized E&P there.

To be fair, half of North Louisiana is low lying flat weltands too with the Mississippi River and Red River flood plains.

she's not the CEO. i have no real basis for saying this, but based on what the actual execs make, she's prob closer to $2-2.5mm.
