We might need a Sonic meetup to get this settled.

Before we do, I do want to clarify once and for all. Are we talking about this:

Or this:

No, you were pressing it too hard against your face as if it were a Mach 3, and that isn’t how it works. I was just telling you and others the proper technique to get a close shave without cuts. Sorry you’re an impatient bitch.

Definitely option 1. I'll be damned if I try the 2nd option. I'd bleed to death with the second option. When I was shaving my dome with option 1, I thought I might breathe too deep and take a chunk out out of my ole noggin.

Were the cuts tiny little nicks that more look like broken skin or longer cuts?

Tiny nicks. You can bet your arse I wasn't going sideways and slicing. I was probably pressing a tad too hard because I wanted a close shave. I like to go with the grain, and then a pass against to get it nice and close.

I use the same method on my head and on my face (around my beard).

When I was shaving my head, I was always a breath away from pissing down my leg. These safety razors are nowhere near as safe and forgiving as my Gillete Fusion 5 when I'm shaving my dome.

It's somewhat weird how defensive you frickers are on this topic.

Yep, shouldn’t be pressing at all. Just glide it over the skin. You get a closer shave from using the correct angle, good lubrication, and subsequent passes.

The key with a safety razor is multiple passes, not pushing harder, which you've probably figured out during this thread.

I use both kinds, even at home, depending on whether I'm just trying to look a bit less shaggy, or if I want a proper shave. Obviously can't bring the safety razor on the plane. Everybody can do whatever they want.

I might revisit all of this somewhere down the road. Then again, I've got stuff to do. Wasting time on shaving, avoiding nicks and cuts from old technology, and maintaining the proper shaving angle is way down on my priority list of stuff to do.

You ole hippy figs.

To be fair, I don’t shave my head, and I can see how that would be more difficult. The trick to traditional shaving is short, straight passes. Heads aren’t really built for that. I’ll die on the hill that a DE safety beats the breaks off a cartridge razor for shaving one’s beard, but I’ll defer to my shiny headed brothers regarding what’s best for shaving up top.

I think it's pretty simple, you can't see most of your head when you're shaving it. You then need a cartridge razor to keep the blade from direct connection with the wrinkles in your scalp.

Give blood, use a safety razor. No idea how you frickers do it, or why. I tried this, but I realized after a couple of weeks why safety razor technology was replaced by blades that don't cut the frick out of you. If you use one of these safety razors to shave your head, you'll be as nervous as a dog shitting a peach seed. One thing I did continue to use though is a shave bowl, proraso soap and a bristle brush. I'll never buy shaving cream in a can ever again.

This says a whole lot about your shitty technique and nothing about the effectiveness of the blades.

The futur is a little fatter. Merkur has a couple handles that are of the thicker variety though. I'm.sure you can find a ton on eBay. If you're new though, I recommend a matte futur and start at setting 1 and slowly work up to 3-4 for a good daily shave. I say the matte bc it still has some grip to it after it gets wets.

I have multiple Merkur razors, Edwin Jaggers, and other, but my MUHL is my absolute favorite. It’s heavier, and has a larger diameter handle which makes it more comfortable to hold when shaving for me personally. I believe it’s an R89, but MUHL also makes more custom handles like wooden handles as replacements and they look significantly fatter than what comes with the razor when you purchase it.

Check out West Coast Shaving and Phoenix Accoutrements, Razo Rock, and Italian Barber. Selections are mind boggling really.

I could see chopping your head up with one but a safety razor is much better for your face. It’s cheaper too.
