Here's what nobody wants to talk about:

Dads lose money to the casino that was supposed to feed their kids.

Casino gives some to the state for letting them rob people.

State spends the money to buy food for the kids of degenerate gamblers.

The kids grow up seeing the government as their parent and forfeit all their rights.

Government takes away guns without a fight.

Are there some degenerates? Sure but the few degenerates does not outpace the millions of people that travel to Lake Charles from Texas or New Orleans for work, fun, etc that would go make bets just to do it. Hell, I stopped in Mississippi on the way to the beach just to put $100 on the Saints to win the Super Bowl. If Louisiana legalized sports betting, it's money that would have stayed here.

Well, allowing adults to make their own decisions with their own money is a horrible idea.

How dare someone want to place a bet on a sport game

People that want to gamble are going to do it in La anyway. What is the problem with giving our casinos sports betting, so they can compete with MS?

I know of four different groups of people who used to get rooms in New Orleans and gamble at Harrahs for their fantasy football draft or opening weekends of football season. They all went to MS this year.

So these people are now staying at rooms in MS, and they get those taxes.
They are fueling up their cars while there. More taxes we lose.

They are visiting restaurants and bars while there. More local money and taxes for the MS folks.

But our backwoods people didn't want that.

Wake up, LA.

You have that backwards. The people who can afford to go to casinos don't. The ones that do are the exception. So what if the money would have stayed in LA, it stays at the casino. None of that money has helped Louisiana tax payers so far.

infrastructure improvements

yeah, we're the envy of the region on infrastructure. Look at what we've done with the money the state has already collected.

some of the money MAY go to education, but the majority of it will be used as rewards to campaign contributors and for cronyism. I'm all for the sports book, but please don't try to shite me by telling me its gonna go to infrastructure.

That's the damn point, idiot. Colorado has too much money to give to education because of the legalization of MJ

And some of you wanted that here? If you still think it's a good idea just mail a couple hundred bucks to the state capitol.

Do you really think these people weren’t betting game before?

I disagree. I know plenty of people who go to the casino as a form of entertainment, myself included. It makes zero sense for Louisiana not to allow sports betting. If you don't think the degenerates have a bookie or some other underground sports book, you need to get your head out the sand.

Based on these reactions we need more churches not more casinos.

Bingo

It seems our country bumpkin posters have probably only been into the Belle of Baton Rouge or some other shitty casino if they think everyone gambling is some kind of degenerate.

I can assure you that a lot of people from the Houston and Dallas areas come into La spend money.

And Harrahs in Nola def. gets a lot of people with money.

Now let those flood gates open to sports betting. Some of these people actually stay at hotels not owned by the casino and eat out/drink and spend other money locally while in town.

You can build all the churches you want and I still won't attend or give them my money....casino, on the other hand, I might.

You think only Mississippi residents are gambling in Mississippi? How many from Louisiana are going over to Mississippi?

Now if Louisiana would make it legal. How many residents of Texas would come to Louisiana?

Y'all do realize most people just do this illegally online anyways? There are tons of sites you can use. I seriously doubt people are driving hours to gamble on sports when they can just do it through an app on their phone.

Who needs more revenue? We have the highest sales taxes in the country and the worst state economy!

We don't need revenue
