Nothing surprising here:

quote:

Overall casino revenue rose sharply in Mississippi in August with the start of sports betting in the state. State revenue department figures released Thursday show gamblers lost $181 million statewide in August, up 8 percent from $168 million in August 2017.

quote:

The figures for September will be bigger, as football season gets into full swing. McDaniel said that through Sept. 19, bettors wagered $17.8 million, suggesting the total will be between $25 million and $30 million for the month. Over the long term, Jacobs said officials expect casinos to win 6 percent to 7 percent of what is wagered.

Shocker! Great job, Louisiana. Missing out on millions in Rev because we are too arse backwards to legalize sports betting.

And some of you wanted that here? If you still think it's a good idea just mail a couple hundred bucks to the state capitol.

I want it for the revenue stream it would create for our broke arse state. People are going to gamble on the games either way so LA might as well make some money off of it.

Look man, about 2000 years ago, some bored soldiers were gambling as they were guarding the government sanctioned execution of a radical Jewish guy.

Therefore it is not acceptable to have both government sanctioned murder AND sports gaming.

Yes.

That tax revenue pays for schools and infrastructure improvements.

Yes.
It is your job to be your brother’s keeper and protect people from their own freely made choices.

whats the difference between spending money gambling and spending money on dinner, sports games, concerts etc? all benefits the state tax wise and its none of your business what others spend money on

LA will follow suit as soon as the powers that be figure out the right skimming approach.

You think only Mississippi residents are gambling in Mississippi? How many from Louisiana are going over to Mississippi?

Now if Louisiana would make it legal. How many residents of Texas would come to Louisiana?

Most of them weren't Mississippi residents.

The majority of people going to casinos aren't the type that's pumping money into the economy. I'd like to see the stats on increased welfare in the next year.

I hear commercials for the sports books on the radio everyday. I promise all the casinos in the New Orleans area are hurting because it takes an hr to get to Biloxi

Here's what nobody wants to talk about:

Dads lose money to the casino that was supposed to feed their kids.

Casino gives some to the state for letting them rob people.

State spends the money to buy food for the kids of degenerate gamblers.

The kids grow up seeing the government as their parent and forfeit all their rights.

Government takes away guns without a fight.
