frick FTX & Sam Bankman Fried. However, you are a retard if you buy something based solely on Shaq or any other celebrity’s recommendation. Shaq had no idea what FTX was. He’ll endorse anything that makes him money. You think I’m going to buy Icy Hot, a Buick or an Epson Eco Tank printer because Shaq is on their commercials? GTFO.

Actually it worked. SBF played the liberal media, got famous people who tend to be democrat, and people ate that shite up and never once thought to actually look to see if this was legit.

I’m being serious, billionaire drives Corolla, oh we can trust him. It was so easy.

People like you and me don’t think like that, but most people are fricking retarded with money.

I agree

I love shaq but promoting something that he knows very little about is is wrong. When it turns south, anyone who is paid to promote it should be liable.

These crypto pushes bring in celebrities and pay them money to give credibility to something that is nothing but a house of cards at best. The celebrities suck in gullible people looking to make some big money…. If a rich celebrity promotes it… it must be good….

Put these people on the spot and make them pay. Maybe next time, they’ll be more careful in what they promote.

I started looking into Crrypto and bought a little bit here and there to have a skin in the game but the simple fact for myself is that I just don’t understand it. Maybe I’m missing out on the next big thing but I’ll take my chances on that.

All that ‘buy the token and hot swap on metamask to stake your claim and convert to Prairie Princess via pancake swap” just sounds too scammy to me.

So everyone that is hired to do commercials are responsible for how the company does business?

I remember a long time ago when I used to listen to Richard Condon, he told a story about how he did a commercial for a local tire shop. He was in public somewhere and some old lady came up to him and started yelling at him because of a problem she had at the tire place.

Anyway, within the last month Shaq has been at the NBA all-star game, doing his TNT gig, at a LSU women's basketball game with his daughter for a recruiting visit and last night at the Kansas-Texas game. That's just what I know of from seeing him on TV.

This person is also suing Tom Brady, Brady's ex wife, Larry David and Stephen Curry.

I remember seeing barstool advertising FTX, MLB had a FTX logo on the umpires.

Tom Brady’s weighty investment in FTX is on the verge of evaporating. New bankruptcy filings show that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback holds over 1.1 million common shares in the defunct cryptocurrency exchange, while his ex-wife and fashion model Gisele Bündchen holds around 680,000, as reported earlier by Bloomberg and Insider.

The NFL star and his then-wife have served as brand ambassadors for FTX since 2021 and even appeared in a series of commercials for the exchange (which really haven’t aged well). According to an estimate from Forbes, Brady’s investment was valued at around $45 million, while Bündchen’s was worth about $25 million.

Agreed.
Kind of like listening to a politician for medical advice.

So every celeb who has falsely endorsed a product or service can be liable?

Is there precedent for this?

If you willingly endorse an outright fraud and scam like FTX without making the proper disclosures that he was a paid spokesperson then yes.

And one thing we have learned about basically every crypto company is that they do not bother to do any paperwork or disclose the risk to their customers. Shaq should have done his homework.

Bloomberg law, precedence had been set

If it can be proven that the celeb didn’t know what they were promoting and it caused financial harm to someone then -yes- they are liable
