We're only under a severe thunderstorm watch, not a tornado watch here in Alabama

yeah it looks like the Fayette storm lined out with a bowing. looked like smaller hail on radar.

Sky in Mandeville has that ominous green tint

Def. got hairy for a bit on the Northshore. Just heavy rain and lightning now. Trees are all blowing in the same direction now so that’s a plus.

Funny of all the days they cancel school they never actually seem to cancel it when the weather is actually dangerous as hell when the kids are traveling
I guess we can expect 1 billion dollars worth of lawsuits today, since that is always the reason for cancelling school

If Raylene gets in a wreck going to school in bad weather the school is liable for millions

If the car flooded out or a tornado hit school there probably would be lawsuits
But the chance of that is about the same as a healthy person dying of covid
Thus we should never cancel for thunderstorms.

I'd be willing to bet I've seen that person in Dollar General with no shoes on buying a cart full of junk food with an EBT card

I'm in Mid-City of N.O. and we are getting ready to get slammed. It is raining now, but still pretty lightly but the skies are black, hearing lots of thunder and the winds are picking up.
When it does let loose, it looks like it will be doing so in sheets.

Ascension FB moms are pissed that they didn’t have advanced permission from the school to not send Braylynn out in a monsoon.

I see both sides of the school argument. I get that it can be a massive inconvenience for parents. I think it can also be argued that a lot of kids would actually be safer at their school during a tornado than they would be at home.
On the flip side, I get the perspective of school systems. If they put buses on the road during severe storms and an accident happens, they’ll be held liable for it. If a tornado hits a school during a school day and students are hurt or killed, they’ll be held liable for it, particularly if they had the opportunity to close or dismiss early.
In the Deep South, I think a lot of school systems were impacted by the Enterprise High School tragedy that occurred on March 1, 2007 in Enterprise, AL (southeast Alabama). The school took a direct hit from an EF-4 tornado during a school day and eight students were killed. I was still in public school then and I feel like that was when dismissing early or closing schools due to the weather became more common.

Judging by the horrific grammar and spelling of those posts, I’m gonna say the children need as much school as they can get because they sure aren’t inheriting any intelligent genes
