That’s exactly what I told her. I said those little cells pop up all over 55 for these sorts of events. I used to cover Jackson when I lived in BR and there were many afternoons I had to pull off the road or get to a gas station off 55 bc of those little dangerous cells. They’re no joke.
Central Mississippi gets very bad tornadic weather.
I don't remember exactly where, but there's a section of I-55 where all the trees are de-barked and broken off about halfway up. I think it was a little north of Jackson. It was alarming because the heavy damage path of whatever tornado did that had to have been almost a half mile wide.
The might have cleared it by now. I think it was from the Yazoo city tornado from 2010 or so, which means the darn thing originated from near the Mississippi River and kept going almost all the way to Starkville. That must have been one horrifying long track wedge to experience in person.

Damn.
Is it a little early in the season for this? Sure feels early.
The most favorable historic analogs for today's setup is from February 23-24, 2007 and March 2-3 2012. So, it isn't unheard of at all.
That was as of around this time yesterday. I haven't checked to see what they are comparing to currently.

How long do you think it takes to drive from Jackson to New Orleans. The line isn’t going to get to New Orleans until this evening.
3-3 1/2 hours

This is going to be a dud of the highest order for Louisiana but really bad for the Mississippi/Alabama state line
Aren't parts of LA still at level 4 and 5?

Will this affect my trip to Punta Cana?

I honestly never thought LA was in play for much high end severe. I figured was more SW MS into South Central AL. I was convinced yesterday that the highest threat was over deltaland.

So I can't kayak to Bayou Beer Garden this evening?

These events always follow the same pattern. They were looking too far west. They’ve shifted east to where it should have been in the first place today.

March 2-3 2012.
I remember that one. I was working in Memphis and they sent everyone home early. There was a lot of chatter about a major outbreak. Our office building was hit before by a fatal tornado years earlier, and my employer at the time wasn't taking any chances.
Schools let out early too. I got stuck behind a school bus in Collierville on Baily Station road when the wind started really picking up. We were waiting for a train to pass when the tornado sirens picked up. The bus made a U turn, drove over the curb on the opposite side of the road, and high tailed it back towards the school just south of there.
That whole area avoided the worst of it though.

That explains why my weather radio picked it up. My county us just outside of the watch to the North. Lawrence County made it sound.

Looks like they are expecting things to pop off later in the day, so the warning is inching eastward. PDS is pretty serious though.
