Jury went in deliberation today and he is being tried for 1st degree murder and 2 counts of attempted first degree murder
my question is if the jury decides it was not premeditated can he still be found guilty of manslaughter, second degree, or negligent homicide? Or is it all or nothing?
IMO: he should die in jail

pre-meditation isn't the standard in LA
but he can be found guilty for lesser included offenses if the 1st degree murder doesn't stick.

They are called Lesser and Included Charges and it depends on how the DA decided and what the jury instructions say.
So, the question can't be answered based on the information given but yes it is possible for the jury to come back with a lesser charge given the right circumstances.
This is the classic conundrum with high-profile cases (I think both OJ and Zimmerman) in that the DA tends to want to go for it all and the jury will acquit but later says they would have easily found for something less.

Is he also his attorney's paralegal?

No, as I understand it they can only return a verdict on what he is charged in that situation, i.e., 1st degree murder and/or 2 counts of attempted first degree murder (I assume he killed someone and tried unsuccessfully to kill another)

It's a f'ed up situation, but I really hope he walks.

If convicted of first-degree murder or second-degree murder, Fontenot will spend the rest of his life in prison. The jury also could find him guilty of manslaughter.

Who is Seth fontenot?
He shot at a car with 3 private school hs kids in it, who he believed had broken into his truck. He said he was only shooting to scare them, but hit all 3, killing 1.

Pretty sure 3 private school kids had robbed his truck multiple times...........this much is proven..........problem is he shot them 50 yards out from his driveway........and his safety wasn't threatened.

That's my problem with this. I have shot handguns a few times at still targets and it is not easy. This was a moving target.
Three shots and he just happens to hit each victim once with each shot???
He is either a great shot (my opinion, he has Oswald like skills), or the unluckiest guy to have ever shot a gun.

not sure why this matters

he believed had broken into his truck
believed being the key word, none of there fingerprints or DNA was found on his truck

only shooting to scare them
shot from 6-8 feet away at the drivers side door on the first shot, tough to believe that was meant to scare
one of the kids parents lived two houses down, they were going to drop him off and he's the one that died

Yep. Very high profile case locally
Not exactly relevant, but very interesting fact. The 2 survivors are the starting qb's for teurlings catholic and STM respectively. There are threads about the Teurlings QB on the recruiting board almost daily...

Going to be very hard to prove negligent. Three shots, three hits.
That said, Lafayette is known as "probation Parish." Juries can be very lenient.
