On the face of it, it seems like a dick move.
Like Democrat controlled FEMA refusing aid to Trump supporters?
Maybe there should be an app where the data is only shared with conservatives.

Yes, I voted for it, and will vote for it again tomorrow.

Some people do those jobs because they truly love it and it’s their passion. A good forest ranger does that job because it’s what they always wanted to do, etc. same for a meteorologist who’s not on TV.

The DOD satellites will still exists, but the data won't be shared anymore.
Dem senators will surely leak it to CNN.

Though other microwave data will still be available to forecasters, the DoD weather satellites comprise half of all microwave instruments, which means data availability will be sliced in half, greatly increasing the odds of missing rapid intensification episodes, underestimating intensity, or misplacing the storm and degrading forecast accuracy.

While the Department of Defense did successfully launched another weather satellite known as the Weather System Follow-on Microwave (WSF-M) in April 2024, that data isn’t currently available to forecasters and it’s not clear if or when data access will be permitted.
So they will still have the other data and possible data from newer satellites.

Because the people can’t scare you by calling it an intense storm 5 days out?

This will probably be the most retarded thing I'll read today. Go Google how many hurricanes have hit the Pacific coast.
quote:
The Pacific basin, in general, is the most active area for tropical cyclone formation globally
quote:
The Eastern Pacific is generally more active for tropical cyclones (which include hurricanes) than the Atlantic. On average, the Eastern Pacific sees about 15 named storms per year, with 8 becoming hurricanes and 4 reaching major hurricane status (Category 3 or higher). The Atlantic, in contrast, averages around 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes annually.
You should have googled.

OMG how will we ever know now if a hurricane is coming? Some of you understand nothing about how much money government agencies waste on crap like this.

Ah, so the truth comes out and the media are liars agains

Ehh...as long as Tigerdroppings is working and that DukeV dude is alive and posting, I've got all the hurricane info I need.

It has nothing to do with this administration. The end-of-life has been coming for a quite a while, and was dependent on how long the satellite's equipment could hold out. This is not a surprise, and it is not a Trump admin decision. But, congrats on gobbling up the rage bait with the quickness.

It isn't the dire situation that many are trying to make it out to be, but it also isn't "nothing". It is a legit problem that was brought about by decades of DoD and NASA incompetence and inability to come up with and implement a plan to replace the satellites. The loss of these products does have an impact on both DoD and NOAA interests. For hurricanes specifically it will make microwave data harder to come by and more slowly updated. Those products are the best for tracking rapid intensification and plotting centers during early storm development. For the DoD, it exposes them to problems because they will now be reliant on satellites owned and operated by foreign countries.
There will be a gap in data, it won't be refreshed as often, and it will cause problems to some extent. The biggest takeaway from all of this is that we had ample warning and opportunity to insure this didn't become a problem, yet......here we are.

Trump assumes preparation is a waste of money because it doesn’t make money.
The administration is full of idiots that seem to think Bobby Jindal was an amazing leader and savante.

No. They won’t. That isn’t their plan.
