I guess all these Motley Crue, Van Halen, AC/DC listening guys don’t listen to the lyrics when they turn their music on...
It seems to me like the suburban white kids that listen to rap booty dance to it at Reggies and go about their lives. A lot of young, impressionable black kids, 75% of whom are growing up in single parent homes, take it as an instruction manual for life.
Rap definitely glorifies this lifestyle and perpetuates the cycle.

Over many people's heads here.
Someone saying that people over 40 hate rap obviously doesn't realize these groups were major players in the music scene back in the 80s.
Many people still like them.
Don't care if people like rap, country, classical, etc., but not to recognize rap is a musical genre is plain shortsighted.
It has influenced popular culture, even if we don't like it or not.

Seems pretty hypocritical to me. But I really don’t care. I listen to a lot of different stuff.

90% of posters here hate rap and love stuff like Tyler Childers. Strange cross section of the population or TD echo chamber?
Because I’m pretty sure I know zero people IRL who listen to “outlaw country” or whatever you want to call it. But everyone I know listens to rap to at least some extent.

I agree with you. In this example though the members of Slpiknot are generally much better people and productive members of society than the Eagles were in their day. Mainly they have families and kids and relatively normal lives whereas the eagles were entitled, rampaging junkies.
People love to decry how much worse off we are today and ignore how much better things are.

I will also point out that Chris Stapleton has a song called “might as well get stoned” and Eric Church has a song called “drink a little drink, smoke a little smoke.”

You somewhat have a point. At least the bands listed tended to use metaphors and veiled references to talk about sex. Most rap is very direct and overtly vulgar and misogynistic.
You're also talking about bands from decades ago. Take Buck Cherry as a modern day equivalent. There's no veiled references there.

Does not compute.

She give ’em all a cookies
By cookies I mean pussy
This girl is kinda loosey
Dudes take her off the shelf
And they put her on credit 30 days later, they return it and regret it
Used like a dish rag
Dumped with a hashtag
I blame it on the pussy
That shite must be bad
Broken pussy Broke-broken pussy

Maybe it’s dry as hell
Maybe it really smells
Broken pussy
Maybe it’s really rough
Maybe it’s had enough
Broken pussy
[Outro]
No-body wants you ’cause you got a broken pussy
No-body wants you ’cause you got a broken pussy
Broken pussy
Broke-broke-broke-broken pussy
Hey Maybe it’s really rough
Maybe it’s had enough
Broken pussy
I fell off the beat
Some song by Issa Rae. First thing I clicked on googling rap lyrics sex.

The point still stands although I would amend it to junkies/alcoholics.
