What a horribly written article. I read it, and I’m still not exactly sure what happened. Something to do with a jury questionnaire which delayed the trial past the statutory deadline.

Yep.
The article stated that he would befriend the parents to get a chance to groom the kids.
So, if I were involved, it'd be my fault this guy got to my son.
He'd be dead, and I'd get away with it.
