HOUMA, La. (WGNO) — Two arrests were made following an investigation into allegations of child abuse in Houma, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced Wednesday.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested 57-year-old Thomas J. Tucker III and 47-year-old Sharotta L. Lewis on several felony charges related to the investigation.
According to the TPSO SVU, the investigation started when detectives were made aware of child abuse allegations that were reported to the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS).
During the course of the investigation, SVU detectives learned about child abuse and sexually motivated allegations, in which Tucker was identified as the perpetrator.
With this information, detectives learned more related to the involvement of Lewis, who reportedly witnessed the sexual and physical abuse but allegedly did not report it, TPSO detectives said.
It was also revealed to detectives that Tucker was a self-identified pastor of the Outcast of Society Ministries in Thibodaux, where more allegations of abuse occurred.
Detectives said when it was time for interviews, they both denied the allegations and were arrested for the warrants connected to the case.
Tucker is in custody at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for the following charges:
One (1) count of cruelty to juveniles
One (1) count of simple battery
One (1) felony count of sexual battery
Two (2) counts of indecent behavior with juveniles
One (1) count of sexual battery
He is in jail on a $602,000 bond.

The Rev. Thomas J. Tucker III, who ran the Outcast of Society Ministries in Thibodaux and served as the Lafourche-branch president of the SCLC, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 1996 for the 1994 shooting death of his 20-year-old stepdaughter, Priscilla Butler, in Jackson, Mississippi.
He was incarcerated from 1996 until December 29, 2005.
Following his release, he began a redemption-focused ministry but faced intense scrutiny from local officials and supporters after it was revealed he concealed his violent past.
