Seeking OT Advice Regarding A Police Matter
Posted on 5/24/19 at 9:13 pm

The other day, I was driving to work at approximately 6:30am. Sunrise was officially at 6:23am and there was a slight haze from the high humidity. The road I was on has 3 lanes in either direction with a median (aka neutral ground). Traffic volume was light but steady and the speed limit was 45 mph.
I noticed a dark SUV approaching from behind at a high rate of speed. The SUV did not have running lights or headlamps on and did not use a turn signal as it bounced frequently from lane to lane. It passed me doing between 60 and 70mph, continued down the road for approximately 1/4 mile and then whipped a u-turn (again without signaling).
I realized that it was almost certainly an unmarked police vehicle. As the SUV passed me in the opposite direction, I honked my horn and gave a “thumbs down” to the driver. I was not surprised to see the vehicle brake, do another u-turn without a signal and speed up to get on my tail and turn on the emergency lights that were hidden in the grill.
I pulled over and the policeman was at my window almost immediately. He asked if there was an emergency. I said that I was going to ask him the same thing because he was “driving like a maniac” and endangering the safety of the other people on the road. I told him that he was a loose cannon and wasn’t above the law or the PD’s policies for using emergency lights. I guess that he checked me for warrants, etc and then told me that he was going to let me off with a warning for “excessive use of the horn.”
He said that he was trying to catch up to a speeder who must have ducked into a neighborhood. I assume that he was taking his frustration at losing the speeder out on me. I told him that I was going to file a complaint with his department and he quickly lost interest in talking to me and he drove off.
I decided later that day to just drop it and not file a complaint. However, the next morning, I saw the same officer with a car pulled over. I’m sure that the driver was being ticketed for something less egregious than what I saw the ticketing officer doing the day before. That has me rethinking my decision to not file a formal complaint.
What would the OT do? File a formal complaint? Talk to his sergeant but not file a formal complaint? Let it go?
TL;DR: A policeman did not appreciate being called out for reckless driving and acted like a bully. What would the OT do?

You should have waived around your concealed carry to show him you mean business.

You sound like loads of fun

Do 100mph tomorrow through his speed trap.
Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side when he sees the big red light behind him... and then we will start apologizing begging for mercy. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart. The thing to do when you're running along about a hundred or so and you suddenly find a red-flashing CHP-tracker on your trail what you want to do is accelerate. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Paraphrasing your post: “He asked me if there was an emergency, and I explained that I needed him to harass me on a regular basis on my way to work. I stressed my need for negative enforcement from him by threatening to report him.”

What a real “get off my lawn” moment for you.

You know he meant your mouth, right?

Advice: stop being a “let me talk to the manager” type and move on with your life.
You didn’t get a ticket and if he pulled a car over for anything, speeding, inspection sticker (which I think is bull shite), etc that’s illegal. It’s still illegal. While I agree that if he is doing as you said, he is not above the law but, as Law Abiding Citizen says, “it’s not what you know, but what you can prove in court”. Besides a complaint no one will care about or unless you can get access to the vehicles dash cam, it’s your word against his....I’m going to bet his wins

Frick him. He’s a tool and you should file a complaint.
A police officer in an unmarked unit should not risk the lives of others on the road to catch a freaking speeder. With no lights at that. Now, a marked unit with lights is different.

So I’m gathering that the OT would just drop it?
I’m kind of disappointed that I forgot to ask if I was being detained.

No, the OT would be thinking 9 figure initial settlement sum..and then untraceably taking the officer and his family out after a period of time, for the disrespect.

I could get his dashcam and bodycam footage very easily.

And, if OP had a dash cam, he could back up his bullshite.

cop stops driver and driver tells cop hes driving like a maniac.
driver then tells cop hes going to file a complaint on him.
cop "loses interest" and drives off...
ok.

Maybe you could, I’m guessing OP couldn’t. Even if it’s easy, it’s a time over money principle. Are you going to really spend time legally getting the footage, filing a complaint, etc. for a max bad mark on the officers record? I get if it’s a “principle” thing, but to me, it’s not worth the time or effort for something that will have absolutely zero effect.
