Damn. This is scary.

Alzheimer's isn't exactly contagious, but a protein that goes on to form the disease was perhaps passed to patients during surgery, meaning there could be an acquired form of the disease, a new study finds. UK researchers, who describe their finding in Nature,
They found all had contracted the disease via accidental exposure to prions when they were given a contaminated growth hormone to treat growth problems, reports Reuters. But researchers also discovered something else: "What we found, very much to our surprise, was that of the eight patients, four had quite significant, some severe, deposition of amyloid protein, the Alzheimer's protein," neurologist John Collinge says, per Time. Only one patient showed no sign of the protein.

Alzheimer's is worse than cancer.

This, its one of like 4 or 5 diagnoses that would actively make me think about going 6 months then checking out.
Put it this way- I'd rather be diagnosed with HIV than Alzheimers (actually, that's not even a fair comparison, maybe it would have been 15 years ago but now even people who aren't uber rich Magic Johnson types live with HIV), I'd rather get almost any kind of cancer as a diagnosis than Alzheimers, just about the only thing that would be a worse diagnosis is MS or ALS- because losing your mind and your identity is terrifying, but retaining them and being locked in your own body fully conscious of what's happening, that's way scarier.

It's pretty bad but I'll take Alzheimers over ALS everyday all day.

Yes, indeed. I am just returning from one of my properties and ran into a lady looking for her son, holding a piece of paper in her hand with his contact information.
She wanted my nurse to call him and let him know where she was, because she was adamant that he would be looking for her. We calmed her down, finished our walk of the floor she was located on and fifteen minutes later, she's asking us to find her son again.
Another lady was holding a baby doll while in her wheelchair as she thought she was a little girl again.
It's a terrible disease.

Can you provide a link to what I think you are claiming?

I was recently visiting my father who was in the hospital. The poor man in the other bed was in end stage Alzheimer's and he was literally just a body lying there with absolutely no cognition. Nobody visited him the entire time my father was there. The one really striking thing was that when they fed him, he would actually try to feed himself but, was unable to do so. It was very sad to see.

While both are incredibly terrible diseases, I would rather die of cancer than Alzheimer's . At least with cancer you have time to prepare yourself, make peace with your family and make peace with whatever higher power you believe In. Watch the movie still Alice.

No sir, I cannot. Not singularly, anyway.
After my Mom passed from this in 2004 at 62 ( she was diagnosed officially in 2000), I did a ton of self-research and concluded that aspirin, as an anti-inflammatory, may hold off the formation of the plaque. ( I am hugely paraphrasing). There are some studies that support this.
I would double check with a doctor before starting any aspirin therapy.

There are a lot of maybes coming from a lot of case studies, but no cure is on the horizon. There is a new drug in Phase III clinical trials, but it doesn't do anything different from Aricept/Namenda. The best you can do currently is early identification as the drugs that are used for Alzheimer's just slow progression of the disease in its early stages.
