The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday its gymnastics championship will be relocated to Huntsville after COVID-19 restrictions forced its exit from the original site in New Orleans.

It’s a major sports victory for the Rocket City in landing one of the premier SEC championship events for the first time. While gymnastics might seem an unlikely sport to be described as major, the SEC championship attracted more than 10,000 people in New Orleans in 2019. Last year’s event was canceled because of the pandemic.

I’d think the Von Braun Center should advocate to host more of these type events

Good for them for being proactive and trying to make it happen, instead of hiding behind the facade of danger in order to receive a bailout from the government.

Turns out it’s hard to legislate 3, 4, or 8 people in a hotel room

Well at least if you don't have to spend any time around Broadway.

Friends,

This move has less to do with New Orleans losing its desirability to host and more to do with the SEC consolidating everything to Alabama. Do not forget that the SEC offices are overrun with Bama grads, and to a lesser extent Auburn and Georgia grads. They are trying to enrich their own state in as many ways as possible. Why not consider the PMAC? Over 3000 could attend and due to covid attendance will not come close to that in Baton Rouge or Hanksville. The SEC is consolidating its events to Alabama and Atlanta.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Dumbass, it has everything to do with people not wanting to deal with all the restrictions and the dumb bitch that is running the city into the ground. NOLA is soon to a be a third world city. Ghana happen like it or not

Lifelong 57 year Huntsville resident here Tulane dude.
Huntsville is going lead the way again in the future. It's not Alabama as you believe is the reason, but it is Huntsville that is the reason.

Screw Nashville, Atlanta, and Memphis too.
