Yes. Really, it's pretty dumb not to. It won't save you from hitting a tree but it's better to wear one instead of not wearing one.

ETA: Look at Giro and Smith helmets.

Headed to Beaver Creek next week. can't wait.

Was there 2 weekends ago, skiing was nice, had a mini pow day. Grouse was closed at the time but looked damn good, I think it's open now.

I'll be in Park City on 1/6 and going to Vail in February

Taking the sleds up tomorrow morning from Vail Pass

Helmets, Cosmo: backcountry.com has a few good Giro helmets on sale for around $80ish. Free 2-day delivery for orders over $50 (the norm for them). I love shopping with them. Great deals, the free 2-day shipping is clutch, and awesome customer service. For ordering a helmet online, I'd suggest ordering the 2 sizes you think would fit you best, and return the one that doesn't. Like I said, they have top notch customer service and returns are super easy. Just go to their website and use the chat feature to talk to a sales rep.

ETA: Make sure you get a helmet with adjustable vents.

You don't just wear a helmet for you, you wear one for all the other yahoos doing 50mph that can't stop.

Vail is a huge mtn that is never crowded once you get away from the high speed gondola. The problem with Vail is all the a-hole foreigners there. They smoke everywhere and stop in the middle of the run or in a blind spot. If the snow is the same at both places I much prefer Beaver Creek.

Steamboat has been getting a foot a day for the last three, should be fantastic.

You've never been to the backside on a powder day have you? LOL. 20-30 minute waits in China Bowl and Blue Sky on weekend powder days are the norm.

As a kid and into my 20's I never wore one b/c I was dumb - esp considering some of the terrain I skied when I lived in boulder. Last year I was on my snowboard and caught a heelside edge after a seemingly small jump, head smacked right down on some hard pack snow and ice and got a concussion. I bought a helmet that night.

I do not recommend buying online.

Go and try a bunch on. There are brands/styles that really hurt my head after 20-30 min. You want this thing to be really comfortable since you're wearing it all day

Alps > Rockies

I've met more Americans in the Alps, than the other way around.

Better ski huts (bars/restaurants/lodges/cafes), quainter, less crowds, steeper more challenging runs, and less white trash Americans like yourselves, GFY

Sorry you're to poor to afford to regularly the Alps, Cosmo, ya two planked snow skidding piece o' trash

Back in TN for the holidays - leaving the family gathering early so we can get back for all of this epic snow.

Vail blackout ends on the 31st so I'm gonna be there first thing on January 1st

In Deer Valley/Park City currently. Spent the last two days skiing fresh powder in Park City/Canyons. Since the merger this place is huge. No way to ski it all in two days.

It's snowed here since Sunday and I believe I just saw 72 inches in the last 4 days but that doesn't seem right.

It's glorious no matter what the exact snowfall is.

Cosmo,

Yes to helmets. I started wearing them this year after never wearing them because everyone else has them on.

If one of the rednecks plows into you with their helmet you'll want one too. I decided to join the crowd and wear one just in case.

Not looking too good. Classic El Nino pattern is about to start setting in. Mid-late January until March is looking to be pretty dry for northern CO as the storm tracks stay further south. New Mexico and far southern CO (Telluride, Wolf Creek, Silverton, Durango, etc) will get hit hard. Taos will be deep in Feb.

At least Steamboat has and is still building a great base.

Ask the next lift operator when they're opening Jupiter. I'm stressing it won't be open in time

Sorry, we are done at Park City and are moving on to Deer Valley since that's where we are staying.

Try the "Epic Mix" app and see if they have better updates than the website.

I would imagine that more and more upper runs will be open after all this snow.
