I used to have an old Sears game fisher outboard I bought at a flea market for a 12 ft aluminum boat

It ran good for being 40 years old at the time

Yeah. And I always looked forward to walking around the aisles with all the:
Craftsman Tools!

Gross. I can only imagine how many toxic particles one would breathe in walking into that place.

Was always great to break a Craftsman socket or wrench, bring it to the store, and the clerk says, "go ahead, get another one off the shelf, have a nice day"

You’re missing a big part of what happened. You’re not wrong but you don’t know enough of what happened.

It wasn’t just that they didn’t adapt. Their CEO bought the company with his own hedge fund and started selling off the valuable brands. To, you guessed it..himself. Die Hard, Craftsman, Kenmore, etc.. those brands alone were worth billions and he stole them for Pennie’s on the dollar.

Sears used to be the go-to store in every town large enough to have a mall.

For smaller towns, they had Catalog Stores. Covington had one at Claiborne Hill in the 1970’s.

From what I remember, it was a single room with some Sears catalogs and you’d fill out a form for what you wanted and give it to one of the people behind the counter. I don’t remember if you had to pay up front or if it was COD. Merchandise was delivered to the store and you’d make a trip to town to pick it up when it arrived.

Perfect option when you couldn’t find the latest fashions at Haik’s or Dutsch & Peter’s.

Not to be confused with the S&H Greenstamps store at Bogue Falaya mall.

1) I had no idea there were any left?

2) why are they do spread out? Seems sound maid logistics a nightmare.

3) Eddie Lampert should be in jail.

My dad worked at sears in BR for almost 30 years. Everything in our house was kenmore and lasted a long time.

Sears carried good products, and had a damn strong warranty, but they didn't make any of their products, or at least not the ones I was familiar with, appliances, tools, batteries, sporting goods, etc.

Believe it or not, I had one of those as well! My parents bought it before I was born and I used it throughout my childhood. I want to say it was 14 HP, if I am not mistaken. I just couldn’t get parts for it anymore when I sold it.

Sears is where Santa Claus roomed when he visited us kids back in the mid 60's in Helena-West Helena, AR.

I wish I could go back in time and see how well the Santa there filled the bill.

Their tools were top of the line back in the day. Quality, made in the USA. Then they off shored production and quality turned to shite, just pure junk.
Got to the point if I broke something, the warranty replacement would go in a box, then get sold off as new on EBay. Take the money and buy something decent.

Sears homes

There is one on Highway 22 outside of Madisonville towards Tangipahoa. It belonged to one of my great-great uncles. I don’t know who lives there now…I think it’s some distant cousin. Someone built a brick house next to it, and attached the Sears house.
