No, marijuana's legal status is a gateway to harder drugs.

So is the pot causing schizophrenia or are the schizos using pot to medicate themselves?

What do you mean, "spice?" The synthetic crap they sell in convenience stores in backwards states is not cannabis.

Not really a surprise here. It has long been known that marijuana is a gateway drug to other "hardcore" drugs. So it may not necessarily be the marijuana, per se, but the other drugs these individuals were introduced to because of their marijuana addiction.

I can't tell if you're fricking with everyone or not here, but the "marijuana addiction" line leans towards trolling

people with schizophrenia are also more likely to use cannabis.

That doesn’t sound like, “Cannabis users are found to develop schizophrenia more often than non-canabis users.” It sounds like those with a problem find solace in canabis. You know, it helps them deal.

This study shows that those born with a genetic disposition to schizophrenia are more likely to smoke weed. Not really surprising at all.

they were talking about this on the radio last week (Birmingham, AL)

said that "spice" was treated with some pretty bad chemicals and that high school kids were using it because it did not show up on drug tests

that's all I know about it

That shite will fry your brain. It has no relation to cannabis/weed. I believe its sold as air fashioner or something, with a wink and a nod that it's like weed. Might as well snort Ajax.

There was a similar overlap between cannabis use and personality types that were prone to more risky behaviour or were more extraverted.

So if your personality type is more prone to “risky” behavior it would make sense that those people would smoke, drink, or use marijuana. Marijuana has historically been illegal and would be somewhat taboo making it “risky”. Seems to me that these people use because of their personality and not the use causing their personality to be what it is.

I think they determined that large doses can also be the trigger for paranoid schizophrenia

Large doses?

And they could trigger something you already have wrong with you?

Schizophrenics being more likely to use pot seems like the it showing the disease makes one more likely to smoke weed not the other way around.

quote:

“Our study showed that people with a vulnerability to develop schizophrenia are at increased risk of using cannabis.”

quote:

This, the scientists said, indicated that people with schizophrenia use cannabis as a form of self-medication. However, the researchers cannot exclude a reverse cause-and-effect relationship, meaning that cannabis use could contribute to the risk of schizophrenia.

There's also probably a link to unemployment in there. Schizophrenic people are less likely to be unemployed thus less likely to be tested for THC.

Everyone knows meth and heroin messes with brain and development

Oh my god.

It is truly sad that people are so ignorant about this stuff. Stop listening to your preacher and 4th grade teacher's opinion on marijuana. They have no clue what they're talking about.
