Simple carbs create spikes in glucose levels while more complex carbs take time for your body to break it down, and are more consistent during the course of the day without spiking your sugar levels and then leaving you in a valley when you come down and want to go night night. During the course of breaking complex carbs down, your body also expends more energy in doing so for a longer period of time. I think this plays a much larger factor in your life when you get older and your metabolism is not the same as it was when you were younger. It’s also important for people with sedentary lives to consider, and most certainly for those with diabetes. That goes without saying.

Yep. Which is ok, if you don't drink a soda, and eat light snacks throughout the day. Denying hunger is good for you though, it's a behavioral thing. You learn to stop giving in to cravings.

This does happen, but it's so negligible that in practice it doesn't really make a difference. The difference of this between protein and carbs, yes, but white and brown rice, not really.

Also a myth. Your metabolism slows very very little between 20 and 40, most people just move less and less as they age.

We aren’t a society that is big on will power and delayed gratification right now.

40 is old for the OT, but in reality, it’s not old.
I will agree that it’s less so with rice, as brown rice is nothing more than less refined rice, or rather less of the husk removed in brown to white. It’s still the same rice, but still your body does take more time to break it down than it does with white rice.
All that being said, just because you have what is packaged as wheat bread, doesn’t mean it passes muster. There are also lots of sugars and preservatives put into bread that are equally as harmful.

I agree, but 40 years olds saying they are gaining weight because their metabolism is bullshite. The difference between 20 and 70 starts to become real because the very small change starts to add up, but the metabolism arguement holds as much water and BMI is bullshite because I lifted weights in high school in a general sense.

I don't claim to be a nutritionist or dietitian. I only share from what I've learned since I began eating healthier over a year ago.

I don’t know about weight, but I just last night put together a low glycemic eating plan because of insomnia problems. I keep waking up at 3am unable to go back to sleep. From what I can tell, it’s a blood sugar issue or some kind of anxiety problem.
I need it to be a glycemic problem or else I’m out of ideas.

100%
We also use metabolism in multiple ways. As you get older it doesn't take less energy to run a cell but you body is doing less cell repair and replacement as you get older. The process really doesn't change your basal metabolism very much people just tend to move less as they get older.
I eat 1200-1400 calories from white carbs on an average day. However, I need them at specific times to replenish my glygogen levels. Everyone is different and everyone's diet should be slightly it significantly different. My diet would probably only be effective and proper for a small percentage of people.

bullshite. Who conducted the study and who paid for it…

So they're saying sugar isn't bad now? Because white bread and soft drinks are loaded with sugar. Dumb article.

White bread in a commercial wrapper is terrible, not because of the carbs, but because of the preservatives and additives in the bread to make for a long shelf life. The white bread baked in the bakery of the stores is not full of additives and has a relatively short shelf life. It is very healthy. Soft drinks are not ever healthy, but I love me a Coke every now and again.

It’s the sugar in soft drinks that gets you.
Can confirm. Am a fatty.

I'm fully convinced our obesity problem is not due to food itself but due to all the endocrine disrupting chemicals in our food and water supply.
