All the kids are coming from an apartment complex on that side and there's no sign of kids on your side as you're coming from the other direction. Do you stop?

Ive noticed there are mixed results in this scenario.

If you ran over the lot of them it would probably save us some tax dollars in about a decade...

Generally if there's a median - You don't have to IIRC.

Painted median or a concrete median? You stop for the former.

I don't see why you'd have to think about it. This is like lower than driving school 101.

Raised or not you don't stop. Only if it is 4 lanes with no median at all do all lanes stop.

That is the law in LA.

Thats what I've always thought. Ive been seeing people stop lately but then they go once the honking starts.

I was pulled over for not stopping in this exact situation while attending high school in Mississippi but let go with a warning.

seems common sense enough.

Yeah. Something about seeing it illustrated helps it sink in, I guess.

I didn't think you had to stop with a center turn lane. I remember someone on here successfully fighting a bus camera ticket on here due to the center lane

In Louisiana, a 4 lane street with a center merge lane that is not divided is considered a barrier and thus you are not required to stop.

a few years ago I received a ticket for doing just that from one of the cameras that some of the buses have on them. There are two contradictory laws regarding 5 lane highways with the center merge. Before I had to show up to fight the ticket, all cases like mine were dropped and as far as I know everyone that had paid a fine for that violation was reimbursed.

I still see people stopping daily though... I kept driving the other day and got several honks for doing it.lol

I didn't stop on a four lane with a paved median and the bus driver honked at me and scolded me (via gestures) and all the kids on the bus yelled! That was a long time ago. I always stop now.

The law states that if the highway is divided, you don't stop.

I stop if it is paved turning lane not bc it's the law but bc I know kids don't think and will run across the center line without looking. I also slow down quite a bit if the there is a grass median.

People behind me can wait.
