Just had a shower redone and they used it for the walls. Also used their 28” niche run horizontally.

So far so good.

We will be redoing another shower soon and will definitely use it

I did not use their waterproof membrane on the bench and walls. I used Redgard, a little cheaper and in my opinion easier to work with.

Anyone have a recommendation for a tile contractor that uses the Schluter waterproofing system in the Baton Rouge area?

We used it and so far so good. Also went with Schluter trim instead of bullnose tile. I think it’s a much cleaner look and much cheaper than tile.

It's pretty badass. Used it in an 83-year old bathroom rip out and rebuild. You can get good deal on kits on eBay.

Adam Bergeron (225)266-0979 did my shower re-build. He doesn't use the Kerdi, but uses cement board and red guard with a mortar bed. He does really great work and very reasonably priced.

You can use cement board with Redguard instead and save yourself some money.

Schluter-Kerdi is an amateur big box store method. There is nothing wrong with it, but its certainly not a system built for commercial or contractor type of use.

There are better and cheaper options out there. Simply making a tile waterproof'd base has a bunch of options and is not that difficult these days. But if you are DIY, its a perfectly fine system if you like it and feel like it fits your needs.

As long as the installer knows what they are doing
So 99% of the time you sir by reading the installation instructions will be more compentant than that guy you call and pay to install it!

Especially if your shower is on 2nd floor.

I have it in my house. Wife (commercial interior designer) required it. And our tile guy that put it in was none stop about the benefits of it. Seems like a no brainer to me. Ounce of prevention pound of cure thing. When that tile goes up its a pain (money time effort) to get right after

Its just a waterproofing membrane, there are other options. Everyone saying "its necessary" I'm not sure if you mean simply a waterproofing membrane which should be code and absolutely a necessity. But there are like a dozen methods to place a waterproofing membrane up.

Just duct tape the entire inside of the shower before you tile. You will be fine.

But seriously, I renovated my bathroom about a year ago and did not use the waterproofing system you’re referencing in this thread. Instead, I used red guard rubber coating waterproofing. I slathered three coats of it on until I ran out of the stuff, let it dry for 24 hours, then started tiling. So far so good.

highly recommend the kerdi. i've used redguard also. for a full tile shower, kerdi is tough to beat. redguard works great for just tiling around a tub or the like. slather that stuff anywhere that might get a lot of water for peace of mind.

fyi you can save the $ on the niches if you're opening your wall up. just frame them in with 2x4 and overlap the kerdi membrane in there. those niches are $$$ iirc.

Very good. I’d take that over the traditional rubber pan system.
