So they got to go to the park for free and they thanked the park by suing them?

if the prosecution can prove to a jury, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Tyler Austin Miles:
1) was informed that some passengers had straps coming loose on a rare, but still consistent basis
and/or
2) assuming the wet Velcro straps have some reasonable replacement schedule (whether adequate or not), if that schedule was not adhered to
... then he could be convicted, assuming that those decisions clearly fell under his responsibility.

Am I the only one that read the article?
I did. And I remember the complaints of wet, near-useless Velcro from the time of the incident.
The dude may be doing some jail-time.

And I believe it is worth noting, particularly on the O-T, that both Schlitterbahn and Verrückt, are in fact, German.

I'm going to guess that the reason for an arrest has to do with the fact that multiple safety concerns and reports prior to this fatal incident were ignored or outright covered up by the park owner and manager: LINK

I know civil servants can only accept so much free stuff.

Most places I’ve lived have State laws against elected officials accepting things like this. Tennessee is the only place I lived where the County Mayor seemed upset when we wouldn’t give him a membership to the golf course. I couldn’t believe he asked for something so outright unethical.

How is it not illegal for elected officials to accept admission for free?
And if they were offing people, how'd they get a kid instead of one of those leeches?

This... Just like giving them a beer
Which is illegal in some places as it should be. Florida for one has done a great job with their sunshine laws.

There are very specific rules for what can and can't be done but unless that water park is a vendor I doubt there's anything illegal about it

Don’t know Kansas laws. It’s a shame that’s legal in any location these days, just like accepting a beer. Elected officials should be held to a high standard.

On March 18, 1980, 12-year-old Frank Gotti, the youngest son of John Gotti, darted into the street on a motorized minibike from behind a Dumpster where he was struck by John Favara's car and killed. Favara, 51, who lived a block behind the Gotti family, worked as a service department manager for a furniture store, Castro Convertibles in New Hyde Park, New York. He had been on his way home from work. His adopted son, Scott, was a friend of the Gotti children and had been their guest for sleepovers. He was a close childhood friend of the son of Gambino crime family caporegime Ettore Zappi, himself a distant cousin of crime family patriarch Carlo Gambino. While Ettore pursued a life in organized crime, Favara remained in the legitimate world, but the two remained close.
No charges were ever filed against him. However, in the months after the accident, the word "murderer" was spray-painted onto Favara's car. On May 28, Victoria Gotti, Frank's mother, attacked Favara with a metal baseball bat, narrowly missing him with each swing. Favara decided not to press charges and planned to move out of Howard Beach.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), on July 28, 1980, before Favara and his family were able to move, he was shoved into a van by several men near his work. There were several witnesses to the abduction, and accounts ranged from him being beaten with a baseball bat, shot with a silenced .22 caliber pistol, or both. Accounts differ on what happened to Favara's body. One account says that while alive he was dismembered with a chainsaw and stuffed into a barrel filled with concrete and dumped in the ocean or buried on the chop shop lot somewhere.[1] Favara's wife and two sons moved out of Howard Beach, having John declared legally dead in 1983.[2][3] In November 2004, informants led the FBI to excavate a parking lot in New York City suspected to be a mob graveyard and the site of Favara's body. While two bodies were found, Favara's was not.[4]

If he or the workers knew that rafts were going airborne and straps were coming loose, what the hell did he think was going to eventually happen?
Posted on 3/24/18 at 2:11 pm to Tiger Prawn
At first they thought the weight was too low but the weights added up to enough after everyone was weighed at the hospital.
I'm guessing the loading (apparently the child was in the front with the women in the back two seats) will be an issue, along with the use of velcro to hold people in their seats, and the people behind the idea and design of the ride were unqualified to design it.
It looks like the design and continued operation of the ride will be the bigger focus; especially if they're going after the operations manager of the park first.

The combined weights of Caleb Schwab and the two sisters riding in the raft with him on the Verruckt water slide ride at Schlitterbahn Water Park in Kansas City was 545 pounds, which was within the weight requirement for the ride, PEOPLE has learned.

Friday’s indictment says that John Schooley, lead designer of Verruckt, "possessed no engineering credential relevant to amusement ride design or safety." It also said that Jeff Henry, co-owner of Schlitterbahn, had no technical or engineering credentials.

no sane jury will find this man guilty

two counts of interfering with law enforcement
When I read that, I thought, well he done did pissed off the wrong person.
When I then read that the deceased was the son of a politican, I thought, here is why they are prosecuting this at all.
When I further read that it was free politican day at the park... well all those politicians saw the accident. I'm stunned they haven't been legislated out of existence.

I just read the indictment. WOW!!!!
Tyler Austin Miles is in trouble. He pretty much had to see this coming, and did all he could to ignore safe practices. He screwed this pooch.
I challenge you to skim through 30% of this and you will change your mind. He better have a GOOD lawyer.
