You realize that if that levee somehow fails, there's so much water in that river that everything in Baton Rouge would likely be washed away.

I grew up by the river. I remember it being that high (or close to it) several times. As a kid I used to go sit on the levee and try to catch catfish. Never caught shite!

Some of y’all sound like the women in Facebook sharing and commenting about the pictures.
One dumbass even commented that the last time the Miss was this high was in 2016 and it flooded half of Baton Rouge. LOL

How far would an evacuation need to be away from the River on either side if it crested the levee?

Scary thing to me is that legit experts are predicting this level of flooding more frequently with the silting up of outlets erosion and such. Feels kinda like New Orleans pre-Katrina. Eventually the perfect scenario will occur.

It helps to imagine the river in its underwear.

Would toilets start circling the bowl in the other direction?

It would appear as such, and I don't mean swirling clockwise....I mean it would look like the water came back out, but in reality it would just be a frick ton of toilets underwater.

I don't have any knowledge of that stuff. BR has a natural levee built into it though. North side of highland will be dry

Correct. The area west of Highland road would be several feet under water but the highland road area would not flood. Downtown up to I110 and north to Scotlandville would flood as well. The ground elevation difference from the levee at Government street to the interstate is about 15 ft.

Nah, there's a pretty decent natural levee that would prevent that for MOST "everything in Baton Rouge."

All those wannabe rich that built on the river side of Highland would find out.

All the way to the top.

Isn't it true that the levee on the west side is shorter and will flood that way and not into BR? Or is that a myth? Heard that HP Long had that done.

Confederate memorial statues were actually just ornate flood deterrent mechanisms.

Google maps has some pretty recent imagery up. You can see seepage along several parts of the river near LSU.
