Hunting in Colorado, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I turned around to see a solid white wolf following me.

One time I went out to the swamp and saw something moving on the edge of the water that looked like a human. I eased up around a cypress tree to get a better look and sure enough there in the bushes was some psychotic yat catching cotton mouths bare handed. Having had encounters with the mentally ill I knew to keep my distance. So I just sat there behind my cypress tree and watched him. Cotton mouths were jumping out of trees onto him, lunging and striking at his lower appendages and waging an all out war against this human-esque invader who was tormenting them. Strangely enough I found myself rooting for the snakes. It was truly disturbing.

4am walking to deer stand deep in woods, no flashlight or headlamp as I knew the trail well. Covey of quail flushes from right under my foot. Those fricks will literally let you step on them before flushing in the dark like that. I’m pretty sure I know what a mild heart attack feels like now.
I’ve also heard a scream like you describe. It is a bobcat or a cougar. In GA it could be either I guess, but where I was in LA it’s highly likely it was just a bobcat

Never been *really* scared, but hearing hogs grunting nearby in the dark will challenge your confidence. You just know that if one were to charge, you'd be in for a fight. Those things are fast as shite and pure muscle.
My brother was a lineman, and they were out in a field walking to work on a downed line, and he said a hog started chasing him, and he ran past the other guy. That guy said what the hell are you running for as he went past him. Next think he knew the guy was overtaking him. One of those cases of I don't have to be faster than the hog. Just faster than you. :)

I was backpacking near Cimmaron, NM when I was fresh out of HS with a few buddies. That trip was eventful in two ways:
1.) We we’re driving my Pops F250 from Baton Rouge pulling an enclosed trailer and got caught up in a thunderstorm in west Texas. Trailer got struck by lighting and fried the entire electrical system in the truck. Had to wait close to 12 hours for a wrecker to get the truck to a shop and had to rent a truck to finish the trip to NM from there. When that lightning hit that was the loudest noise I had ever heard in my life. Coupled with the flash, I 100% honestly thought I had just died.
2.) Every night we would sling a rope over a tree branch and haul our trash and food up in a bag a good 20’-25’ to avoid bears and critters. Maybe 4 days into the trip we came across a pit toilet with a few seats on it that overlooked a huge cliff. Me and a buddy had to go so we sat down pilot-bombardier style (back to back and there was a board for a backrest separating us). Most beautiful shite I’ve ever taken in my life. Well after maybe 5 mins we hear a rustle down the hill and both look over…huge arse bear was walking right by us maybe 20 yards away MAX. We both froze still and as soon as he was out of sight we hauled arse. I’ve never pulled up my pants so fast in my life.

Early 80s. Going down the Shaffer and see something swimming across the bayou going from Avoca Island to Bateman Island in our headlights. As we approach we can see the head of a hog but it's not right. too big, too much disturbance in the water. a hog shouldn't splash as it swims, hogs swim as well as dogs at least.
long story short, when it hit the bank it wasn't a hog. it was 'something' holding a hog under it's right 'arm'. the hog was dead. whatever was holding the hog sort of stayed on all 4s as it bolted for the tree line but right as it hit the tree line, it began to go more upright like to stand up. it was big, bigger than a bear...way bigger than any bears in La. it was lightly raining, dark (430am), cold as hell and it happened quickly. less than 30 seconds total. we stopped hunting that southern tip of Bateman but we did go in there a few weeks later when it warmed up and water came up high enough to get in and found some cypress trees snapped off about 15 feet off the ground and the tops were woven into something you would call a nest about 10-12ft across.

Y'all probably aren't too familiar with Tuscaloosa. But old Bryce Hospital is the abandoned Mental Facility in town. It operated at a time when the mentally ill weren't treated the best. All sorts of rumors of abuse and the place is supposedly haunted. Its in the middle of the woods and when you approach at night, it feels like you're driving into the mouth of hell. You're driving through a long section of woods until suddenly this big decrepit building emerges from nowhere out of the darkness
Students at Bama will go to scare themselves. The inside is pitch black. We went into a big group that got split up as we explored. I was scared shitless about 3 minutes in and questioning every decision I've ever made. We actually found a homeless guy in one of the bigger rooms. As our phone light flashed on him from a distance, he woke up and screamed at us to GTFO. We haul arse out of there and wait at the front for the rest of the group.

When I was about 9-10 years old my buddies and I were down in the woods building forts when I had a pain in my stomach and knew the captain was calling.
I found a nice log, pulled my pants down, sat down and started letting it rip.
One of my buddies had a beagle named Sparky who snuck up behind me and licked me on my bare arse, you talk about freak the F out. I jumped up running with my pants down and a turd half the way out screaming and hollering bloody murder.

Was about 16 years old and hunting in a swamp. Flashlight went dead. I had just watched the original Blair Witch movie a few days before.

I’ve gotten out of a tree stand in the dark while surrounded by wild hogs. They can sometimes charge you, but mostly will avoid you. Still unnerving hearing them all around you in the pitch black.

I was bored in my tree stand one day so I clicked on a Fox News article about Hillary Clinton. Unfortunately the article had a picture of her. I almost crapped in my pants.

That was a fox

First time I heard one scream like that, it scared the shite out of me too.

We were doing night land nav during Officer Candidate School and I came up on one of my points and heard grunting. Damn hogs were gathered around the point so I couldn't punch my sheet.

Thankfully other guys had the same experience so our cadre believed us as to why we couldn't get the punch.
