...been looking for a used truck, but it's a secondary vehicle for work type functions, etc so have been shopping around for a deal.

I'm amazed at how many people initially respond with this statement and not really giving much more info. What does that even mean?

How bout set an asking price, or at least say how much you owe on the piece of crap.

FWIW, everyone that says this seems to be pretty trashy.

How does one exactly pick up the payments?

No Title, so I am assuming one would have to do personal financing with the vehicle as collateral?

Yeah it means that it's about to get repoed and they want someone to save their credit and from embarrassment.

Probably have to pay for the last 3 months up front and then start paying monthly.

I have no idea what it even means myself. How do you sign over a title you don't have?

Yeah, that would make me pretty suspicious looking for the scam. How about I just pay you a fair price, and you use that money to pay off the loan that you have on the vehicle?

That's how I ended up with a Snap On toolbox with some tools for less than $500.

That's French for "I got in over my head, now can't afford the damn thing". It also means that standard maintenance most likely hasn't been done.

It’s code for I can’t make the payments and I’m upside down.

You also see this for leased C63 and M3/5 crowd. Picking up lease payments may be mutually beneficial. Seller wants to get out of a lease and the buyer is ok with a shorter term. They usually have a small cash component to get to market value which is a different scenario than the OP describes.
