Unless they get a full ride, none of the above.

Why go into $100k+ in debt for a name on a diploma?

I find major determines more than college name.

I wouldn't allow my kid go to Rice. Don't want them to be associated with OWL in any way.

Rice is highly rater for student experience, that wasn't always the case back in the day we led the way in student suicides. The administration recognized the issue and fixed it. The student life is now rated very highly.

You dont have to worry about the greek system, youre assigned a residential college, thats a huge help.

A kid could never venture more than a mile from campus and still enjoy everything a large city has to offer but doesnt have to deal with so many of the negatives. That could be important if the new place is intimidating.

academically its not even close, but as has been mentioned the area of study /discipline does matter.

Mine toured Bama a few weeks ago and they put a lot of thought into her visit. They even found another girl from Mandeville that's in their Honors college to conduct the full one-on-one visit. Hate the school but they're killing it with academic recruiting.
This is how they run their football program and why they have had so much success with both.

Rice.

This isn’t even debatable.

Rice is really, really generous with financial aid. No one is going $100K in debt there.

Really can't go wrong with any of those schools. Rice is the obvious choice because it is the highest ranked school. I would also support Tulane for the cultural experience of living in New Orleans. I'd argue against SMU over the others, but ultimately it would be fine if the kid wanted to go there -- it is a great school that would give you some excellent connections. Again, really can't go wrong there.

Private schools can often offer better financial packages, depending of course on the student's academics and financial need. Sometimes it makes sense.

Agree with others.

1. Who is giving more money?
2. Which one aligns with their major/career objectives
3. Let me them chose.

All 3 of them are excellent schools

All good schools...

Rice is my pick, even if all Rice grads are creepy and weird.

SMU is a clear cut below the other two

Ignorant statement.

Why do Tulane graduates make 12k less per year than SMU Graduates?

In terms of the rankings for private schools... Tulane, Pepperdine, Nova and SMU are all in there together... Everyone on The Street views them similarly... They're for rich kids not smart enough or connected enough to get into an actual good school, but they're not mouth breathers forced to go to Lynn or Rollins. Calling SMU a clear cut below has zero data to back it up.
