Just a quick look at Rice's website says it's about $70k/year to go there (tuition plus fees and books and room/board, etc).

Rice doesn't charge tuition/fees if the student's parents make less than $130,000

Have one accepted to 2 of those 3. Has done some classes already at Tulane. Hated the almost everything about the school. Hasn't toured Rice yet. Still to tour UVA, Miami, FSU, UNC. Already toured Clemson, Duke, Samford, Alabama, and Georgia.

So far she is choosing Alabama's Honors College. Scholly Money is too good to pass up and the tour was 'Phenomenal."

Seriously though depends on what she wants, and type of girl she is.

SMU is like a USC. Education isn't that great. Dallas local businesses do better focusing on UTD or UNT degrees due to being people who had to "earn it".

If a girl wants a really good "M.R.S" degree SMU is in the Ivy League, but not "great education" for the money. Local connections help if you dont have any already. Rice would be my call education, but then you have to live in Houshit.

Rice is the better academic school.

The job markets are better in Houston and Dallas.

The schools have three very different student populations. Rice is more studious, SMU is a wealthier/preppy, Tulane has more people from the northeast.

.
Depends on the kid and the major, but Tulane also canceled their engineering program.

All things being equal, my preference would be:
1. Rice
2. SMU
3. Tulane

Am I paying? None. They are not worth the cost. In that area, TAMU/UT is a better value.

Mine applied to Rice and Tulane and got accepted to both. She is going to Alabama because they offered the better scholarship package.

I told my daughter I will cover all of her tuition and costs associated with college to any university except for the Gumps. If she wants to go to Alabama, she’s on her own. They’ve taken my football happiness, but won’t get my money.

If finances are irrelevant, I'd say that the city and school culture that the student likes the most should determine which school. If you hate where you are, it's going to be difficult to survive four or more years. Those are all very good schools.

It’s amazing what kind of scholarships you can offer when the athletics department and football team are getting so much positive press

Depends on what they want to do. Rice has the best academics of those 3, so if they're into engineering or science that's the obvious choice. Can land pretty solid national jobs with a Rice degree. SMU has the best networking opportunities per capita for a non-target school. Won't be able to compete in terms of resume for jobs against the UT kids, but can always work for a buddy's dad. Tulane would be the most fun.

Rice's stadium capacity is larger than their total alumnus
