Satellite radio dropping off all of a sudden around town
Posted by coverboy on 9/28/16 at 1:21 pm41
About two weeks ago, I started losing XM/Sirius reception in a few new spots in town. Nothing has changed as far as interference between my vehicle and the sky in these new locations. I know we have a tower in town that faces offshore that prohibits 99% of vehicle remotes from working when parked around it, but it's never affected satellite radio before. Anyone had this happen to them before? Aliens? On a side note, there were 3 unmarked, unlicensed, official-looking vehicles cruising through town all traveling together a few weeks ago as well.

Tall buildings will make you lose signal

I have spots like that in Lafayette.

I've noticed this too. But I'm not in my car, I'm in a rental. I thought it was just the rental. I drive an Audi and I'm renting a Chevy.

I lose signal under overpasses and trees

Definitely not buildings nor weather. There are 3 distinct spots when I go through town on the overpass. However on the surface streets, the outage is much broader. I also thought it could be only certain XM/Sirius channels because I think there's more than one satellite broadcasting from up there, but that wasn't the case either. I'm wondering if that offshore tower is now emitting a much stronger signal either offshore, or somewhere else similar to the signal that overrides the vehicle remotes.

you don't get some stations from one satellite and other from another. all from whichever satellite

It's happening in all our vehicles (4). Here in BR.

There is a highway close to where I live that if I drive in the right lane, I lose signal. But if I drive in the left, the trees don't block it. So I just set my cruise control for 5 under the speed limit and drive in the left lane.

Yep, I've noticed it over the last few weeks on 190 near Southpark in Lafayette.
