You do. They're called "your managers".

Does a satellite phone truly work anywhere?

nope...my experience is that they are an overpriced piece of shite. Now, if you are at a research base in Antarctica, with absolutely no other means of communication, then a sat phone is what you want.

However, if you are looking for it as a way to take your normal level of cell service and making it universally available...it is not going to come close. Biggest thing is that you have to be outside and have a clear line of sight to the satellite for it to work at all. You end up telling everyone that you will do something like go outside and stand for a time to make yourself available to receive calls.

I've used them. Reliable but expensive as hell. I've mainly used them on islands with no cell access

I was at a research base in Antarctica, sat phone barely worked, and we were about 1500 miles North of the South pole. The orbits of the Satellites used for the phone service does not put them that far South so connectivity is intermittent. I suppose the sat phone company figured there were few people down there to pay the bill so why bother.

I would say your new tough guy persona sucks but so does all the other personas you have tried out over the years. Maybe it's just the source of them all?

I feel special. You stopped playing video games for a minute to reply to one of my post.

Is it going to fall apart if you are out of touch for a few hours? Let it go man and enjoy vacation.

Used em on toad stools in the gulf of mexico with a broke dick helicopter a time or two. Stand still, out in the open and prepare for a laggy arse phone convo. Remember your voice has to go a long way to get to the other caller. Takes a bit to get the hang of. Better than no commo at all

The Inreach is better than the Spot. I connect it to my iPad and use it to text. Great thing is you can buy month to month plans depending on usage.
