I don't believe in carbon footprint and crap but I hate the chemicals from plastic in our air we breathe and the water we drink. It also leeches into our food. We really need to reduce plastic by about 90%.

Why though? If the water is for home use...it is incredibly wasteful to buy tons of individual water bottles for home use.
Is it not wasting water to buy a tumbler you have to wash regularly? How much water is wasted over the lifetime of the product?
How much more resource intensive is it to manufacture those longer lasting cantines? And what happens to them after they're no longer capable of storing water in drinkable conditions?

We use Brita pitchers and buy gallon jugs of water...then refill those at those water stations in front of grocery stores that cost like a quarter to fill up a gallon jug.
How much pollution is emitted in the manufacture of the britta filters? Doesn't it require replacement filters?
Also, assuming plastic and phased out and aluminum replaces plastic what stops the aluminum cans from ending up on the bottom of the ocean just as easily as the plastic bottles?
How much of the pollution in the ocean comes directly water bottles that were purchased at airports? Does anyone even know?

What about iPhones iPads Android phones?

And when you dispose of the Brita filters, what about the carbon (organics) in them, that pose a hazardous waste situation?

I buy a few cases of bottled water a week and a rarely recycle. I find it inconvenient so I choose not to do it the majority of the time.

But does SF have good tap water?

Just close the airport for a month!

Think about the decks of cards that have been thrown away.
Impossible to count.

somehow the human race managed to reach the 20th century without disposable single use water bottles. It is the single biggest scam ever perpetrated
go get a couple of collapsible water bottles and keep one with you, it will fit in your pocket.
it’s not that hard or inconvenient. Places outside the backwards arse state we live in even have bottle filler stations you can fill up for free
crazy, I know

Or about the hundreds of flights landing and taking off in a given week at the airport. Everybody needs to quit being so wasteful and not fly. Don't go on vacation, you're harming the environment.

And replace it with what? Aluminum leaches as much and they use plastic to mitigate it.
What are you replacing the plastic with?

How many in this thread still buy cases of bottled water...in single use bottles for home use?
We buy a 30 pack a week usually. It's mostly for the kids.
They will grab what's most convenient out of the fridge so we keep water and no sugary drinks.
My wife and I use Yeti style cups.

Quit using plastic so you can use plastic. Got it!
Posted on 8/3/19 at 12:30 pm to fallguy_1978
why not keep and refill the bottles?
they have a cap you know

you are intentionally being obtuse if you can’t see the difference between using one bottle vs dozens

how Do you people have a problem with this?
I don’t think people have a “problem” with it. They’re just laughing at the progressive idiots who think that by doing this they’re saving the world.

Stopping use of single use plastic is a good thing. You people are crazy
Why? Why is it a good thing? The stated aim was to reduce the carbon footprint. How does that reduce the carbon footprint? None of you can prove this. You just want to feel like you’re doing something so you can feel better about yourselves.

I think you're being ridiculous. But that's just me. I bet if it came down to it and I knew you personally, I could point out shite that you do that is wasteful while you're standing on your soapbox preaching about how wasteful plastic water bottles are.
Everybody uses single use bottles. Except for a handful of y'all in this thread. Obtuse or not, it is the truth.
