You’ve never met someone in Louisiana who’s been North of Alexandria?

If not for one -- count it, one (1) -- drive to Dallas, I would never have even been through Alex or S'port (didn't set foot in either)

Otherwise, excluding St Francisville and I-55, in LA I've never been north of Lafayette. Frankly, if not for this board I probably would never think about N LA (or USL).

I was more interested in the literal aspects

I'm sure there are many people in SE LA who've never even been to Alex, much less S'port

And conversely, it's also interesting how many people in S'port have never been to SE LA (in fact I think I once started a thread long ago asking that)

I feel like there’s more people from north LA that have been to south La than vice versa due to Nola, LSU, Saints, entertainment in general. People from south LA only go to north LA to hunt and that’s still not a lot.

Ok? The population of Louisiana is what percent black? That’s a shite way to judge a place. You act like all Hispanics are hoodlums. Many are honestly not that different than white middle class folk

Right on.
SA has a definite Mexican vibe, but I found it very inclusive and welcoming. If you’ve never done Fiesta in San Antonio, it is one of the absolute most fun times you will ever have. SA has a definite family feel, even for us white folks.
That said, I’m glad I’m not living there anymore. Great vacation spot, but the traffic is damn near on par with Atlanta, and the suburbs are growing at breakneck speed. There’s one little patch of undeveloped land on 35 between SA and New Braunfels, just past Cibolo. It won’t be long before it’s neighborhoods all the way to San Marcos. It also has the most unattractive population of any large city I’ve ever seen.
And San Marcos is not some great place like some of y’all are saying. Anywhere outside of 1604, from Helotes all the way across to New Braunfels would be great, if you’re not traveling downtown during commuting hours every day. Bulverde is a treasure.

San Antonio has more affordable housing. Austin is ridiculous with real estate pricing trying to mimic California.

Neither.

Both are terrible for different reasons.

Spent 12 years in Austin in late eighties and early nineties. A golden age to be sure. That Austin is almost completely gone now.

Not sure your politics but they both are turning liberal with Austin taking a commanding lead. Downtown is starting to get Austin transplants that are taking advantage of cheaper housing as compared.

This is what I hate to see. More loft apartments popping up in downtown San Antonio.

With that said, I’d pick SA over Austin. Lots of Hispanics, but there is a nice mix of conservative Hispanics. SA is so spread out, there are MANY places to live affordably. Great food. NBA team. Downtown can be fun. Very close to hill country and wine country. You won’t have protests like you see in Austin. It’s still a short drive to Austin if you insist on a 6th street experience or big time college football. BUT I would live in SA in a heartbeat over Austin.

That's one of my least favorite things about the Deep South. I don't necessarily want to live in North Dakota either but if I'll be leaving Louisiana for some seasons and interesting terrain
