re: San Antonio vs. Austin

I've lived in both and have family in both and know them both very well. I prefer NOT living in Austin but the suburbs of Austin are amazing(Round Rock, Bee Cave, Lake Travis area). There are just so many outdoor things to do around here that blow San Antonio, Houston(lived there for 8 years) and LA away(unless you literally only want to fish and hunt).
North SA ain't bad but after being in and out of that city for 35 years I can comfortably say I'm just not a fan. Austin>>>SA in most ways.
I could get into more specifics, just ask.
ETA: After just having read through the comments in this thread so far it appears, as usual, 75% of them are from people who've never left Louisiana and just bash everywhere that isn't Louisiana and think SA=Mex and Austin=SF.
Which just isn't the case... Yes, there are some that fit the stereotypes mentioned on this board but pretty much everywhere is better than Louisiana in most categories. I think the word I'm looking for is ignorance.

Ok? The population of Louisiana is what percent black? That’s a shite way to judge a place. You act like all Hispanics are hoodlums. Many are honestly not that different than white middle class folk you racist prick.

I didn't act like anything, I simply stated a fact.
You on the other hand jumped to conclusions with your BLM brain. Stay Woke Fool

The highly desirable areas of Austin are super expensive too. It's absolutely insane what my sister's house is worth and it looks like a run of the mill upper middle class house from the street.

Boerne. That's where you would want to be.
I do like Boerne but Austin is my choice. So much to do there with great food, music, art, outdoor activities and a funkiness you don't get in SA.

I'd live on 100 acres of land in between both cities...

You do realize that 27% of people in the entire DFW metro are Hispanic? I’m not gonna do the math and really embarrass you but that’s not much different than 57% of SA. What kind of idiot lives in Texas and complains about it having a lot of Hispanics? Go to Iowa if you only want to be around people who look like you.

I've never met anyone in Louisiana that has never been out of the state.

I wish I lived in Austin. Doing outdoor activities, flrotong with women while I drink craft beer and gourmet tacos . Also doing yoga on a waddleboard

Haven't read this thread but I'm guessing it's a bunch of people who live in Baton Rouge and Slidell saying how terrible Austin is because of muh liberals.
Edit: yup.

Was raised in stone oak/Sonterra (NEISD) in San Antonio. 2nd grade through high school.
IMO, after living in a few other Gulf South cities (Nola, Mobile, BR, Houston) San Antonio is the best place to raise a family. Main point is raise a family. I’ve been back to SATX a few times since high school and it’s not the place for sub 30s.
Austin takes the cake on lifestyle sub 30.
If you live a more laid back life, SATX definitely has that vibe. Downtown is a complete 180 from when I was a kid. Riverwalk was not the best place but Pearl renovation is pretty nice and the south side downtown has gone through a bit of a Renaissance.
Not sure your politics but they both are turning liberal with Austin taking a commanding lead. Downtown is starting to get Austin transplants that are taking advantage of cheaper housing as compared.
Depending on where you work, your commute might be a slight hike. Would recommend 281&1604 to 281& I-10 south to downtown (makes a cone). Stay away from Alamo Heights, those folks are ridiculous. Perks of SA is closer to water and easier access to west Texas/hill country.

Austin is great but has been on the decline with that dumbass mayor of ours and all the homeless crap. Abbott pushes back a little, but not enough. I'd still pick it over SA just for the burbs if you weren't going to live in it proper. The super liberal aspect stops pretty fast once out of Austin city limits but still in Travis County.
