Most likely done to have a value proposition, and a higher-end proposition.

For instance, the Cafe brand is a higher-end GE.

Also, Maytag, Kitchenaid, and Jenn-Air are all made by the same company as well.

Tire manufacturer(s) also participate in this.

Same for tools.

What are some companies that you are aware of that we all use today that have multiple companies under their umbrella?

Majority of shop vacs are made by one company (ridgid’s parent company) They sell the product to all the other tool companies.

Always buy the cheapest sugar. If you’re buying sugar in the USA , no matter the brand there’s a 95% chance you’re buying from American sugar or Louisiana sugar which private labels pretty much all of output.

Watches and Sunglasses

They are both made by one manufacturer that accounts for 75% of the marketplace

My friend works for Fossil in Dallas and said it’s the same parts and quality and they distribute these brands, just interchange the logos and price

Burberry, DKNY, Emporio Armani, Armani Exchange, Columbia Sportswear, Diesel, Frank Gehry, Karl Lagerfeld, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Callaway Golf, Davis Cup, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Skagen Designs, Michele, and Adidas.

Food: Different brands companies sub out their lines and products to different manufacturers. Store brands come from the same lines as the name brand items.

It is so relatively easy for companies to sub out manufacturing to allow other companies to pickup all the problems and concerns of manufacturing. There probably even tax advantages doing it this way. Just look at even an iPhone, Apple is not manufacturing it at an Apple plant in China or now India. They are using Foxconn to manufacture it and stick an Apple logo on it.

Yesterday, I saw that Walmart sells similar flavors of Girl Scout cookies but under its Great Value Brand. They cost half as much. I went ham on a package of these for 1.73:

Cooking oil. People that pay the extra money for Lou Ana oil over great value or other store brands are crazy. They simply swap the labels and use the exact same oil.

Something crazy like 95% of microwaves are made by the same company. That is why they are all basically the same.

There are really only a handful of parent car rental companies, with numerous brands.

Exxon BR supplied all the area gas brands at one time. All the different brand tankers would load up there, except for maybe Texaco which had its own plant not far away.
