Sam was a huge influence on Warren Haynes, one of my favorites.

On a side note, I'm reminded of how much more relaxed the 80's were.

And it isn't even close. Stax had more grit, a fatter sound, and far more creativity. Stewart wasn't a great businessman...he let them roll tape endlessly, but those open-ended recording sessions are where Booker T's organ playing runs into Steve Cropper's guitar in Green Onions. Then the rest of the song is like a dual between organ and guitar.

Crazy thing was that half their artists were kids from down the street who stopped in at the record shop. It all went to shite after King was assassinated, though.

edited brain fart on Steve Cropper's name.

You could easily get a speeding ticket driving at night with this on.

Steve Cropper, a monster rhythm guitar player and songwriter.

Crazier considering Motown had some of the best session musicians in the business, but the local kids in Memphis gave Stax an authentic funk and soul sound.

Crazy how much great music Sam & Dave created together in such a short time.

Such an incredible pair.

Everyone needs to take the time to visit the STAX museum in Memphis. Then not too far away is Royal Studios where Al Green cut all his hits. Fascinating
