I've lived in SE LA my entire life and have evacuated three times and stayed put for all of the others. My question is what do you buy at the store prior to a storm? I've got rice, meat in the freezer and a bunch of 5 gallon Kentwood water jugs. Do you buy up all of the Chef Boyardee or something? No point in buying refrigerated stuff even if you have a portable generator.

Stuff needed to BBQ, Some solar yard lights that can be used inside if power goes out. Of course flashlights.

Is mandeville better off with that euro run or the forecasted track that has the very center of the storm pass about 5 miles east?

Propane
Charcoal as a backup
Gas, gas, gas, oil for generator
Batteries, flash light, lantern

I froze huge chunks of ice using large Tupperware container which saved the meat in my standalone freezer for a few days until I could get back to LCH. Don’t put gallon water jugs in freezer as they expand and split.

ETA: Putting a few of these huge chunks of ice in your fridge will save that stuff too if you have somewhere to move it to.

Yeah, I've got briskets in the freezer, flashlights etc. Just really curious if I'm missing something by not buying up a bunch of canned goods. Even after Katrina passed I had no problem with finding food on the Northshore.

Have all of that. Good idea with the ice blocks.

I’d recommend filling bathtub or at least some containers with tap water to use for flushing toilets and whore bath. Not having water in LCH made things get real pretty quick and bottled water was like gold for a couple days.

This would save us from the worst of the rain, which, if intensity forecasts pan out, would probably be our biggest issue.

I am scheduled m and T nights, even if hospital doesn’t activate lock in.

Getting wife and 2 kids (5&8) to family in BR with generators and such should be my call, right? Far enough?

Otherwise, they will be at home without me. In-laws not too far in Metairie if it hits fan, but wife is probably better off than they are in handling things.

House hasn’t flooded in Metairie (Katrina, May 8th in 90’s, etc.)

Nobody needs a dirty whore after a hurricane. Can only make matters worse

As of now there is no storm surge watch or warning for Houma/Terrebonne. Winds forecast to be out of NE to North to NW as of now.

Now I know not to focus on the line, but the line passes over Lacombe. So is it better to ride through the western eyewall or have the storm pass 25 miles to the west of mandeville and while not getting the actual eastern eyewall, riding through an area 10 miles east of it?

Hoping the rain to the southeast doesn't wrap around the eye.
