I thought Ivan was cat 4 in the bay
Nah, Ivan started an EWRC if I remember correctly just at the right time to get it under Cat 4 and juked right at the last minute to save Mobile a whole lot of trouble.

A lot better than it was a few hours. We may avoid a catastrophe

Hard to see 10+ feet of surge with this storm, but I guess it's possible. I wouldn't be worried though, not a damn thing you can do about it
The parking level at Sugar Beach is a good 20 feet in height. Only worry is for anyone keeping their car down there.

No doubt. Those pictures worried me more than anything but evidently Ivan was a much stronger storm.

Check out Eric Jeansonne WLOX Facebook. The one run shows we’ll get high tropical force winds, up to 74mph.
Edit: my bad, thought I read winds.
12 hours in at shipyard and will be here till Wednesday

What happens if hurricane Sally strengthens overnight and becomes hurricane Tyrone heading straight for Nola

3mph? Was that ever predicted? That’s a stall.

That fricker took down three trees on our property and dumped a shite ton of rain on us in north AL. I was working a second shift job at the time and got off work during some of the worst of it. Driving across a bridge and seeing bands of spiraling rain tunnel things (still the weirdest rain I've ever witnessed) about 20 feet above me and putting my car in the middle of the road with the yellow line right down the center to fight the wind was wild. I was the only car on the road.
I got home, grabbed a beer and went to the balcony which was opposite the wind. Stayed up most of the night listening to the wind and rain. I watched one tree blow back and forth for a few hours the next morning before it gave up the fight.

Another set of neighbors finding themselves in a hurricane thread - an underrated bingo square.
