your situtation may dictate otherwise but if you have the ability to pick/use a CRM just for yourself to keep you / clients organized Hubspot has a free edition but also take a look at Zoho.

It’s a sold CRM but takes a bit of learning/adjustment.
We are now on D365…..really like it.

Depends on business.
In consulting engineering, that’s about $225k per employee in annual sales.
So, yeah, that’s very average at best.
We target $325k+

Yeah, it's a fair point. I didn't know people were going to fixate on that figure or I would have expanded on it a bit. We are in a rapid scaling phase. We did $25 mil year before last. Did a bit more last year (I think if was $32 but don't have it handy). We just landed a multi-year military contract that will bring in $60 mil this year alone.
So our numbers are solid but that isn't my department so I am not hyper-focused on Revenue unless it's so bad that I need to be polishing the resume.
As part of the scaling, our CEO went and hired a bunch of big hitter types like the CRO and they are bringing in a lot of stuff like Sales Force that they had at their prior jobs at larger defense contractors. I have spent my career at start ups and smaller firms so I don't have a lot of experience with these programs. Everytime a place I am at starts scaling to adopting those things I usually move off into another start-up.
I am hoping to stay around on this one since I like the people hence why I am trying to figure out how much this change is going to impact me.

This program is the scourge of the sales profession. I highly recommend you quit the moment they bring in this busy work/micromanagement tool to any company.
Salesforce forces good salesmen to find new employment and destroys the sales profession. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS!!!!

am working at a small / mid-sized (110 employees, $25 mil revenue) company that is adopting this software at the behest of the new CRO. We are 85% government sales based. With the other 15% being online web sales and some retail dealers.
You don't need Salesforce. The upkeep and admin burden will drain your team.
Hubspot is the choice for ease of use.
This sounds like a typical "run the same playbook" CRO.
Prayers sent.

So many bitter sales people in here.
I am a lead admin for a $400M company. Here is my advice/thoughts.
Depending on company growth YoY, expect 1 of these 2 things to happen.
1. You are hiring an actual SF admin to handle the day to day workload, enhancements, expertise on knowing what to do, not to do, etc.
2. You are stuck doing it, and prob poorly, a mess is created. Ppl hate it, you hate it.
3. In 2 years you hire an Admin to fix your mess, or you pull the plug.
Some times it's more about volume of sales and size of sales team. If that is going to keep growing, you are going to wish you just hired someone.
Sales people hate change, good luck.

There's a fair chance a sales manager doesn't love it either, but a CEO/CFO thought it would be a great idea. It costs a boat load of money, so said sales manager then gets pressure from them to implement it with the sales team. And there you have it.

And overspending on Salesforce, the most expensive CRM on the market.

I thought you own/run a family business where you fire employees who ask for fair market pay??? So which is it? Are you an employer or employee?

Curious if anyone uses it to manage vendors? And what their experience has been with it.
Other divisions within my company are already beginning to use it, so trying to decide what the use case looks like related to vendor management.

Leaving a job b/c they got a CRM platform is just crazy to me. I brought on Salesforce to the company I was at in 2012. CRM platforms are not new.

Same here. Absolutely hate it. It adds about an hour of unnecessary work to my day.

It's snake oil mostly, salespeople selling other salespeople a bill of sale.
If you're backend or doing any kind of data reporting out of it, buckle up because you're about to learn the truth behind garbage in garbage out.

hard to expect good data when commissioned based reps are asked to do a bunch of busy work

Salesforce convinces your boss you shouldn’t be keeping stuff in Excel
They make you plug your Excel data into a slow, awkward browser interface
They give you back reports in Excel
